Bad idea to have mortgage direct debit on the 28th?

Just wanted to check this out with wise MNers.

I have been told it's not a good idea to have your mortgage direct debit on the 28th. If there is a problem with the bank and the money isn't taken, then it will look as if you have missed that month's payment entirely, and face associated impact on your credit score.

Is this something which is commonly known?!

My mortgage goes out on 22 because DH get paid on 21st. I would never have considered the bank holidays issue (I know we're not quite as near the end of the month as 28th, but it's honestly never occurred to me.) Mortgage companies wouldn't offer it as an option if it was going to cause difficulties.

Ours is set for a few days into the month- that way if there is an issue with payroll etc it’s gives a bit of breathing space to sort it out.

All my DDs go out on the 28th, I get paid on 20th so like to leave a week or so in between income and outgoings. Never had a problem with payments being taken, sometimes they can go out on the 1st if there is a long bank holiday weekend or something but never an issue with my credit file.
