LGPS in a school, making apcs

Bit of a niche question this. I know I need to ask HR but we only have one and they are in the, no doubt lengthy, process of replacing her. So I just wondered, if you work in an academy and make apcs to your lgps pension, does your employer, your academy or MAT, also increase their contribution?

I don't work for a school but work for a local authority. And no they wouldn't make a higher contribution. Mine is a final salary scheme so not sure how that would work?

I didn't think they would. Then when I used the LGPS APC calculator there's a field for employer % contribution, which made me wonder🤔

There are certain circumstances where an employer has to contribute to APCs - this is when you have lost pension due to some forms of absence e.g. maternity. If you opt to buy back the lost pension within 30 days of returning to work then the employer must pay two thirds of the cost. However, if you’re just paying APCs to increase your pension then the employer doesn’t have to contribute (they can if they want to but I’ve never come across an employer that does)!
