On Full HB. Housing Association Want to me to Pay £5, Help?

Currently receive income based ESA and HB. HA want me to pay £5 a week towards my rent (currently full rent is paid) so that when I'm transfered to UC

They do keep saying that we're meant to pay them in advance. They know I'm on full HB and can't seem to grasp that I can't afford to pay £5 after paying for everything.

Can they do this? They've written to me twice this year and I've told them both times that I can't afford it. They can't seem to understand this.

Could you afford £1 per week?

if so pay that and over the coming months it’ll add up

are you anywhere near retirement age?

What has her holiday got to do with anything?
Firstly people with disabilities are allowed five dayys in a Travelodge it isn't bloody Maldives.
Secondly you have no idea WHO is paying for that holiday, it could be a gift.
Thirdly her rent is already paid in full so the extra was confusing and she may have budgeted to the limit for each week.
I wonder how many of you sneery types pay extra on your rent for giggles.

Could the £5 be a service charge. I don’t believe that benefits cover the service charge.

Nope. Service charge is included. The maximum I can claim is £90 a week. Rent plus service charge is £81 a week.

They want me to pay £5 a week to ensure that I won't be in arrears when I transfer over to UC.

HB is also paid in arrears but obviously not the 5 weeks just 2 weeks

could you not offer a smaller amount?

if you ever want to move this would then become a problem, as deposits/rent up front are now often required to stop accounts showing in areas
