Hi all. I got married on the 23rd April so immediately declared it to HMRC. Have been claiming WTC and CTC for years - situation is, husband and I don't live together yet.
We are in the process of buying a house.
I read that you can't claim if you're married, regardless of if you live together or not?

You can make a joint claim. Even if not living together he is still financially attached to you!!

I think they'll say he earns too much though?

Well you can't claim as single. When I married we didn't live together and I had to repay a bit due to them making 1 payment post wedding!

Then don't claim for gods sake!
Sounds like you are looking for a way to play the system.

If he earns too much and is your husband then he needs to support you.

I've already stopped my claim. Just interested if anyone else has experienced this. I would never try to play the system - far too terrified of getting in trouble!

To be fair, it sounds like you have been playing the system already. You were clearly a couple before you got married, getting married hasn't changed the relationship only concreted it as such. However at the point you marry, you are financially linked, so no you shouldn't be considered as single. You can make a joint universal credit claim, however you will need to declare all savings and income
