Buying a car on credit

MrsSnape · 11/01/2008 12:07

I am looking to buy a cheapish car, mainly for short distance driving but the occasional long trip, therefore I'm probably looking at something like a Focus for around £3k.

I was under the impression that to get a car on credit you just needed to be employed (part or full time) and have a good credit history.

I've now been told however that you need to be in FULL TIME employment.

Is this true?

No, all depends on your circumstances in my experience. Part time doesn't prohibit a loan but they will want to know you have enough income to pay it back. have you done a quick search on loans on moneysupermarket.com or similar?

I almost got a car on credit but when i asked the apr so i could compare they gave me the flat rate which is half of apr rate so watch out.

It might be cheaper to get a loan that get it from car people.

Don't get car credit from the dealer, just get a 3k loan from the post office or the bank, it'll be miles cheaper (usually).

Get a cheap loan NEVER EVER get a car on credit from a finance company

scarily I got finance for a brand new renault grand scenic (0%APR) in October even though I no longer work and am a SAHM, finance was supposed to be in DH's name but dealers put it in mine instead
