NHS pay

Hello,

I have recently had a break In service from the NHS of approximately two months.

I have now decided to return to the NHS. Previously I was on the top point of my pay for my band. Will my pay be this in my new post or do I start from the bottom?

You will have to ask your employer and negotiate your contract. Is it the same job/ band?

Grumpybutfunny · 09/05/2022 17:29

Most trust use less than 12 months and you go back on where you were and get annual leave according to completed years

twirlsandwhirls · 09/05/2022 17:31

It's the same band and the same role just that I took a two month break. According to the NHS website I get all my annual leave etc the same so I assumed my pay point would be the same too

I'm pretty certain you'd be at the equivalent pay band however bear in mind AFC changed a couple of years back so you'll be on the new pay progression scheme although if you're top of band this wouldn't impact you

Thank you all. I assumed that too but just wanted to check just in case

When you say young"took a break", did you have a sabbatical, or did you actually leave and then apply for another job?

twirlsandwhirls · 09/05/2022 19:45

I actually left the NHS. Worked another job outside the NHS and now returning to the NHS

You can negotiate going back on the pay point you are.
I took a break from the NHS for nearly 5 years ( I'm a nurse and went to work in private sector).
When I re joined in December last year I was initially offered a band 6 back at the bottom of that banding pay scale.
I told them I had been at the top of the band when I left, and had been earning more money in the private sector ( they asked to see my wage slip ) and then agreed to put me at top of pay scale again.

Do you think it's likey my new employer will negotiate my pay to be on the top pay point again seeing as I only had two months out of the NHS?

Yes, if I got put back on top pay point after 5 years I would say a 2 month break is a sure thing.
I mentioned it to the recruiting manager when I got the job that I would like to go back on top pay point, and they just told me to discuss that with HR which I did.
They check out your previous employment and got me checked my salary in private sector- then agreed.

When I got my final offer letter after all checks done etc it stated what pay I was on.
How far into recruitment process are you?

twirlsandwhirls · 10/05/2022 08:18

Not that far. I literally only got the job a few days ago.

I'll speak to HR when I get my offer letter through. Luckily I kept my most recent payslips

This would be automatic in Wales.

twirlsandwhirls · 17/05/2022 11:24

Do all your other benefits such as annual leave etc stay the same following a return to the NHS?

Yes. You may have to prove previous service to get it though.

milkysmum · 22/05/2022 15:27

Yes you will get your AL entitlement based on previous years. You might just have to keep emailing HR to ensure they set it up on the correct entitlement once you have evidenced previous years.

starpatch · 23/05/2022 16:24

You need to speak to the manager who recruited you, rather than HR as its your manager's decision. I wouldn't wait for the letter.
