Ltd company. UC?

Dh is setting up a ltd company. Myself as a shareholder /employee. Both set roles within the business. He doing manual myself the admin bookings etc

Currently hes employed (24k pa) so measly for the job he does . Im a sahm.
Potential earnings are much greater and would mean we can stop UC top ups in time.

My fear is. For example if the 1st few months took a while to get going, obviously there's some outlays, and say the business could only pay him what he would have if employed and myself a small wage. ( still have 2 pre school children i would have to work around) Would UC top it up still, does our accountant submit the earnings to hmrc

Obviously praying that he will earn straight from the off a decent figure, as our aim is to be earning enough not to need UC,

You need to input your earnings monthly for self employment

They will want you in for a meeting to discuss it all pay attention to what your allowed to deduct as its different to hmrc

We know roughly what can be deducted (accountant has explained most in brief until we have a meeting)
Would it be better for the accountant to submit it to hmrc.

He will need to have a gateway interview at the JC to establish if he is gainfully S/E. He will have to report monthly all income that comes into the business not just wages he pays himself and you. He should make himself knowledgeable about expenses that can be taken into account as they don't necessarily correlate with HMRC. He is likely to get a start up period for 1 yr where he reports his actual income and this is what is taken into account. After 1 yr a minimum income floor (MIF) will apply which means that if his income is less than the MIF in any month his income will be treated as the MIF amount. He will also have to attend appointments at the JC every 3 months during the start up period and provide evidence of how the business is progressing (invoices, order book, expense receipts etc).

My brother got support whilst he started his business, I'm not sure about the exact amounts but talk to the job centre, they can explain

You need to submit the monthly ins & outs yourself into the UC portal. No, your accountant shouldn't do this for you as there's no provision in the system for UC claimants to use agents (such as accountants to do it), similar to most other benefit claim portals, it's up to the claimant to enter the data and confirm it's correct.
