UC & self employed work whilst employed

Playgrind · 22/04/2022 22:22

I am currently claiming Universal credit and work very PT hours PAYE, as I have a baby. My partner is the main earner.

I am applying for additional work, but this would be on a self-employed basis. How would this affect my UC, to do both jobs? None of the online calculators/advice Ive found covers this scenario.

Thanks

Your wages from self employment would have to be declared monthly and would have the same amount deducted from your UC as earnings through employment.

Yes you declare the wages and expenses etc monthly when they ask for them and that goes into your total income for the month. They will also invite you to a self employed interview to determine if you are 'gainfully self employed'

How old is your child? In some work group regimes you cannot be considered gainfully self employed. You would however need to report the change - confirm that you are both employed and self-employed and it would be set up for you to report your S/E earnings at the end of each assessment period (you will get a To Do each month). Your employed and S/E earnings would be combined- a work allowance applied and then the taper to work out the monthly adjustment for wages.

Thanks for the input, when reporting though am I expected to report earnings without deductions? Because wages as an employee are only counted after tax is paid. And what about the minimum income floor, does that apply?

Kids ages are 1 and 5.

When you submit it asks you what you earned, if you paid tax, NI, had expenses etc.
