Netflix price increase

SnozPoz · 19/04/2022 09:10

My Netflix subscription is going up to £15.99 a month from tomorrow. That's getting on for £200 a year and it's doubled from what I originally paid when I started the subscription. It just seems a lot. Is this the same for everyone? Is anyone else considering cancelling their account?

I haven’t heard anything about a price rise, is it on all packages? I just have the basic £5.99 one.

Yours is going up to £6.99.

As you are on the most expensive subscription I would downgrade to the one below which will be £10.99, so cheaper than you are paying now

silentpool · 19/04/2022 09:25

I've always had the basic one, works well enough.

User7493268965 · 19/04/2022 09:26

Unless you use lots of devices at the same time the premium one is not really worth it as much of the stuff on there is only HD anyway, I found this out when I subscribed to premium for a month, I soon changed back

Moochio · 19/04/2022 09:27

Do you watch it on 4 screens all at once?

thecoffeewasthething · 19/04/2022 09:30

I downgraded my sub as soon as I heard about risk, so although I'm paying 6.99 now, it's less than before, and with little impact or inconvenience.

thecoffeewasthething · 19/04/2022 09:30

Not risk! This.

Dogsandbabies · 19/04/2022 09:38

I just downgraded to the £10.99 package.

Ha! No but it can be three screens at once with different members of the family

We eek ours out a bit by cancelling it for a few months then signing up again. The kids run out of things they want to watch after a while anyway.

Moochio · 19/04/2022 09:40

Ha! No but it can be three screens at once with different members of the family that's what I meant sorry. I'd look at downgrading and the kids will just have to deal with it.

This is good to know... will investigate other options

Probably see how often you use 3 devices and work round that as the £10.99 one allows 2 devices at once.

User7493268965 · 19/04/2022 09:45

Family would probably prefer fewer devices and a bit of restriction than no Netflix at all

We do somerhing similar - mix it up and just take off the odd month here and there as we usually run out of stuff we fancy watching after a while anyway. So, say, one month free with Prime, one paid for Prime, one off, two Netflix, one Now TV, one month off ... etc.
User7493268965 · 19/04/2022 09:52

And while we are here, anyone that has Disney + with Tesco Clubcard points, offer until 29th of April of £8 in points for 6 month subscription, I bought 2 lots😀

Bellyups · 19/04/2022 09:53

Ours has gone up to £10.99

Flatbrokefornow · 19/04/2022 10:13

Mines about to go up. I’m cancelling the premium (only kept it because my mother uses it) and DD and I will share a basic one. It’s cheaper for mum to get her own now. I do feel a bit bad about it, she helps us out a lot, but I’ve cancelled everything else I can, it’s not like it’s the first thing to go for us. Amazon have put their prices up too, and I’ve downgraded that to one user for DD, cancelled Disney, cancelled my audible sub and never had a tv licence. It’s a bit grim.

JustaMirage · 19/04/2022 14:20

I get mine with Sky and can’t work out how much I pay for it.

When I looked at Sky Q earlier in the year it looked like the basic £5.99 Netflix was part of the package so a freebie but if you wanted the standard or premium, you had to pay but I'm not sure if it was the full amount. We have Sky+HD and I find the Sky website is very difficult to find actual prices of separate things as it's not that transparent.
JustaMirage · 19/04/2022 16:30

No it’s not and if you want to cancel or change anything you can’t do it online, you have to call and it’s a pain.

benfoldsfivefan · 19/04/2022 19:13

I’ve cancelled my subscription - I was on the £9.99 package which soon goes up to £10.99 but I hardly ever watch anything on it and a 17% increase is appalling. Much of their own content is mediocre and the really good stuff was broadcast years ago, I’m not a big rewatcher.

wobytide · 19/04/2022 20:46

Install a free VPN on your browser then signup via Turkey or somewhere and use a commission free foreign currency card to pay each month. The full HD/4 screen package is 54.99TRY currently so about £2.90 this month. Less if you choose the lower packages.
