Seems like the Inland Revenue are cocking up tax credits AGAIN for a lot of people on MN, including me, and suddenly deciding that they've overpaid by some idiotic amount.

Apart from complaining to the tax credit offices (as much use as plaiting fog), what is there that you can actually do, especially if they stop your payments (which thankfully they haven't done to me YET). Any legal eagles out there?

Also, how do you find out who would be the minister dealing with this sort of thing?

TIA!!

They are weird. I did a calculation on their website and got a quote which is at least half the figure that their phone helpline is giving me. I've done it twice now, to check that I haven't made a mistake filling in the form, but it's coming out with the same figures. I don't know who to believe.

Bonkerz - same happened to me. IR have stopped my payments until until the overpayment is cleared. I've lost £100 per month, which is a fifth of my measly income, and am now in so much debt that I'm having to look for a full time job.
So much for helping parents to bring up their children - the f8cking IR has made sure that my children actually see less of me.

its not surprising they cant get any staff when they cant make their computers work properly!!!!!!!!!!

wobblyknicks · 22/11/2004 20:17

No surprise about their computers - if I was a self-respecting pc I'd go on strike having to work for the IR!!!

They sent me a form saying that if they overpaid me and it could be deemed reasonable for me not to have noticed the overpayment then I could keep it.

wobblyknicks · 22/11/2004 20:21

good one jampot - in which case I'm definitely keeping mine because it looks right anyway - I think they've miscalculated on the overpayment.
