Credit card for agency worker

Ds banks with Halifax and has done since he was a student.
He wants to apply for their clarity credit card for travel abroad mainly but I know they are pretty strict and the problem is he is working for an agency and I don’t think he will be eligible. He’s worked at the same company non stop for nearly 2 years but not one of their permanent employees. He’s got a quite substantial amount of savings and current account with them but is also living back at home due to the pandemic.
Anyone got any experience with credit card companies and is it just a waste of time applying in the circumstances?

But I presume he has worked for the same agency for those two years?

It is worth trying.

He should just apply

Has he checked his credit rating etc? Most of the credit score websites offer a “you have a 50/75/95% chance of getting this card) which helps.

I’d really recommend monzo or staling for use abroad though as you can get cash out with them

I think you can do a soft application on the money saving expert website to see if you would be accepted. I would tell him to do that!

Yes I suppose he can do the soft application to check. He won’t have much of a credit score, I don’t think. He has a sim only phone contract, does that help? but was at uni prior to this so not much else.

Is it not for actual credit, just for emergency use abroad? Or just day to day spending abroad? In that case, if he’s going to pay it off instantly after the trip, he could look at a specific credit building card like Vanquis Origin. Be very very very careful with the interest rate though!
