Best budgeting app

I'm looking for a budgeting app so we can manage (DH's) spending better. We've had a dramatic drop in income over the last 2 years but still not really tracking our spending. We also have some debts which we're paying off and I'd like to pay them off sooner.

I want a budgeting app and it needs to do the following:

  1. Work in both our phones so we can see each other's updates.
  2. Be able to add variable pay in at different times of the month.
  3. Allow "pots" so we can allocate money monthly to be spent on a termly total eg kids music lessons.
  4. Would love it to link to our bank account, can you get one that does that?

I don't even know where to start, willing to pay a small amount for a really good useful app!

I use YNAB. Love it. I tried loads of budgeting apps before this one and it's by far the best for categorisation and accuracy.

The linking to the bank works incredibly well.

You do need to get the hang of it when first using it. It took me two goes! Once you've got over the initial learning hurdle it's works so well.

There's a free trial when you sign up for 34 days , and if you want to use my referral link well each get a free month on top.

Sounds perfect! What's the monthly cost?

Another vote for YNAB. It's life changing.

Looking in the App Store, YNAB is 12.99 a month if you pay monthly. I pay yearly, and looking at my budget, I can see that I am budgeting 7.25 a month for that.

Great thanks for the advice! I will go for it I think!

Goodbudget, it is 10x simpler than YNAB and cheaper too

I have just started using the Emma app and it seems pretty good so far.

Is he likely to put the work into something like YNAB? It sounds awfully faffy to me.

If he's the type who spends too much on non essentials might putting some money in an account and him spending that until it's gone work easier and cheaper?

Work out what is affordable after bills, savings for annual and irregular expenses and debt repayments and send it to his spending account. If he runs out, he needs to wait until next month for more money.
