How much do you save?

Kaya1990 · 01/04/2022 20:11

As in the subject. How much can you put away every month? Combined if living with partner. Rent/mortgage, bills, salary, other expenses and financial story no need to be included.

My DH and I about 400-500 per month.

No idea how much DH saves, but I save approx 2k per month, plus around £500 into DD’s savings.

bumblefeline · 01/04/2022 20:33

Zero at the moment. Hoping that will change soon.

Cocomarine · 01/04/2022 22:14

More than some people, less than other people. Possibly the exact same as still more people.

Horcruxe · 01/04/2022 22:15

Not much.

Probably zero.

But hopefully will improve in a few months

ScarlettSunset · 02/04/2022 17:41

200

RoundGlass · 02/04/2022 17:42

1k. Single.

NeedleNoodle3 · 02/04/2022 17:43

£400
I’m not sure about my DH as he’s recently retired so our finances are going through a big change.

ilovesooty · 02/04/2022 17:44

More than some : less than some I expect.

I feel immensely fortunate to be able to save at all when so many can't.

shabbalabba · 02/04/2022 17:44

Married, 2 dc
we save about 2k per month.sometimes a bit more, sometimes a bit less. This month a bit less as it was my DD's birthday so we have spend approximately 400 on her party and presents.

MintMe · 02/04/2022 17:45

At the moment, £2k (renting quite cheaply but saving to buy) and after that, it'll be around £1300.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 02/04/2022 17:51

Single parent, 1 DC no real housing costs as flat bought with inheritance.

At the moment I save £170 a month
£100 in Premium Bonds... Not really savings but out of the way for big annual bills like car insurance, car tax etc.
The maximum £50 in a Help to Save account (govt add 50% after 2 and 4 years)
£20 a month into a LISA

I used to save more but currently paying out £400 pm for the new kitchen and central heating I had put in recently.

Patchbatch · 02/04/2022 17:57

We save £500 each into joint savings and then I usually save around £500 to my savings. We earn the same and pay half for bills, half of savings and then we have the same disposable income left- I'm a saver and he likes to spend.

Orangutanteddy · 02/04/2022 18:25

Save 250 a month

Spacemonkey2016 · 02/04/2022 19:33

Absolhtely nothing. Rent is £1300, childcare £600, with all other bills/food etc I don't have anything at all to save. I feel resentful that I fall into a group that earns slightly too much for any benefits, but actually, our household income is fairly low, so perpetually have no money!

LadyCatStark · 02/04/2022 19:35

😂😂😂 fuck all now

caringcarer · 02/04/2022 19:37

I save about £1k per month but then invest in a btl every other year to build pension. I have 7 now. DH saves less as generous with DC and likes his tools

MyNameIsAngelicaSchuyler · 02/04/2022 19:39

Totally depends. Right now we are concentrating on overpaying part of our mortgage (the part most affected by rate rises, which we all know is coming). once that’s paid off we’ll have more to save.

Pegasussnail · 02/04/2022 19:39
  1. It's not a lot (a month) but we rent out two houses. Not in any debt apart from mortgage and have a secure job.
BeyondMyWits · 02/04/2022 19:43

We save about £1k a month. Around 25% of joint take home. We are very fortunate.

Bushkin · 02/04/2022 19:47

30% of our net income

DollyPartBaked · 02/04/2022 19:55

We save around about 10% of our income pre tax. We have only just started jointly saving (I saved before but my DH didn't).

What do people do with their savings? We are planning on using some as long term savings and the rest for Christmas / holidays / the gas bill!

Darbs76 · 03/04/2022 09:35

Single parent so only my income but living rent free at the moment and saving for a house. So I save £1250 for my house savings, £250 Christmas and birthdays, and then around £250 ish for holidays. Working 6 days a week at the moment as have overtime available I can do at home, so hard to turn it down. Also had a few bonuses at work as working towards a promotion which will help with the house savings. Kids are teenagers so no childcare anymore but Uni costs coming, thankfully their dad will pick up the cost for this

Do you actually save all year for Christmas? Is it to cover the gifts or overall cost of Xmass? Like the idea. Gotta do the same next year after we pay off the debts!

OP posts:
NeedleNoodle3 · 03/04/2022 13:43

I’ve always put money away each month for Christmas, it totally takes the stress away. Last year the amount I saved paid for presents, Christmas lunch out, panto, an illuminated event thing etc. Extra food costs got absorbed into our normal food budget so weren’t noticible.
