PIP mobility

Hi can anyone help with this please? It's the PIP area for physical mobility- not being able to walk a certain number of meters...

Would something like a bowel condition count for this where you're in pain and bed for some of the day?

Or would that not count if you can otherwise generally walk OK?

Many thanks

No - have read of this for each section - www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/sick-or-disabled-people-and-carers/pip/help-with-your-claim/fill-in-form-pip/

So no it doesn't count?

No, it won't count. Mobility is about movement so unless you are rendered immobile or your general movement is impaired by the bowel condition, it's not relevant for that section.

Please please read up on what you need to prove for each section or they'll refuse your application out of hand. It's such a dreadful system.

It depends how often the bowel condition means reduced mobility. If mobilizing causes you pain most of the time and limits your mobility then you may be awarded some points. If you can't mobilise because of pain and have to stay in bed for that reason then it may apply.

I know someone who recently scored points for this area with a similar bowel condition so will try and speak to them also. Thanks

Just because you're in bed so not walking wouldn't count. If however, you were doubled over in pain so couldn't walk without being in significant pain, yes it could be. No points You can stand and then move more than 200 metres without any help.

You can stand and then move more than 200 metres with a special aid.

Examples of special aid:

Walking stick
Walking frame
Four points
You can stand and then move between 50 and 200 metres without any help.

You can stand and then move between 50 and 200 metres with a special aid.

Eight points
You can stand and then move between 20 and 50 metres without any help.

Ten points
You can stand and then move between 20 and 50 metres with a special aid.

12 points
You can stand and then move between 1 and 20 metres without any help.

You can’t stand, even with a special aid.

You can’t move more than 1 metre, even with a special aid.

Hmm it’s actually not quite as clear cut as the previous replies.

I’ve got ongoing enhanced mobility for lupus and Addison’s and other conditions (and enhanced on the care part too). When I completed the form I was very clear that I can physically walk - I actually wrote this in capitals but explained that if I push myself to walk too far I end up in severe pain / terrible fatigue and then cannot move for a long time afterwards (need bed rest etc) so it does affect my mobility. If your bowel condition causes similar issues then you can say the same and may be awarded points based on that. You can write more than the form allows you to write - you don’t have to make your replies fit the questions / boxes. Just write about how things affect your mobility in general.

Just to add, its not about if you can/cant complete an activity.
It's about if you can complete it safely without coming to harm in a reasonable time frame.
