Can anyone help me work out what my UC payment will be in April?

Hi all, I'm just wondering if anybody can help me work out what my universal credit payment will pay at the end of next month. The reason why I am querying this is because this month I am going to be getting a bonus from work. My bonus is £595. My normal salary is £870 a month. I have an allowance for two children.

I just don't know how to work out how much less I should be expecting in April. Obviously I want to put away enough to cover any loss that I'm going to face because of my bonus this month if that makes sense. Normally I get around £670.

If anybody could help me I would really appreciate it. Mathematically I'm not that great so working something like this out for me is difficult!

Are you under 25 or 25+
Are you single or do you live with a partner
Do you rent or own your home
Was your oldest child born before or after 6 April 2017
Do you have any childcare costs
Do you have savings over £6k
What is your usual assessment period and payment date
When is payday

Having said all that, there is a simple way to work it out.

55% of your bonus is deducted from your UC.

£595 bonus, £327.25 (55%) will be deducted.

So if you usually get about £670, this time it should be about £342.75.

Sorry I am 31, single parent, no housing benifit, eldest child is 7/1/17!

Ok so assuming no childcare costs and no savings over £6k

Maximum entitlement:
Standard element £257.33
Child element £519.58
Total £776.91

Then you would deduct some money for your earnings but not all. The first £557 of your earnings is ignored (this is called the 'work allowance' and it's the higher one because you don't get the housing element). For everything you earn above £557, 55% is deducted from your UC. When you earn £870, deduct £557, leaving £313, 55% of that is £172.15.

Your UC should usually be £604.76 (£776.91 - £172.15). But you said you get about £670. Are there childcare costs you haven't mentioned?

No childcare or housing costs or savings.
My take home pay fluctuates ever so slightly between £840 and £870z my UC is normally £620-£670.

So if I have £870 + £595 = 1465
1465 - 557 = 908

908- 55% = 408.6

So my payment next month would be approx £408?

For each additional pound you earn above normal for your bonus, your Uc will reduce by 55p.

No £408.60 is the deduction for earnings from your total Uc amount.
Babyroobs · 23/03/2022 16:09

Sorry you have done the calculation wrong.
908 x 0.55 = £499.40 deduction.
So whatever the total of your elements is, you will have a deduction of £499.40 from.

AnotherEmma · 23/03/2022 16:56

Sorry I made a mistake, I used the U25 rate instead of the 25+ rate

It should be

Maximum entitlement:
Standard element £324.84
Child element £519.58
Total £844.42

When you earn £870, deduct £557, leaving £313, 55% of that is £172.15.
Your UC will be 844.42 - 172.15 = £672.27

When you earn £1465, deduct £557, leaving £908, 55% of that is £499.40.
Your UC will be 844.42 - 499.40 = £345.02

So after tax etc my wage is £1359.99

Can anyone help me out with the exact figure? Thanks so much for all the help so far!

When I had a change in my wages due to having unpaid leave. It didn't catch up with me until the following month. As my UC pay day is 26th of the month so is based upon the previous months pay day. The last day of the month.

Also there will be an increase on UC as of 1st of April.
