UC and Fit Notes

CrazyTimes123 · 18/03/2022 00:39

I have recently applied for UC for DD19 who has SEN and highest rate PIP. I submitted a fit note yesterday (a 6 month one initially) and have just received her first UC payment of £257.
Does this sound the right amount to you ?

I am hoping she will have an assessment asap for capacity for work & work related activities as she is unlikely to ever work and I don’t want to have to keep getting her doctor notes.

Standard allowance 25 years and under £257.33

She won't get LCWRA applied until the fourth assessment period, assuming she is found to be entitled by the work capability assessment.

Thanks @oviraptor21 for replying so quickly.
What’s an assessment period - a month ?
So after 3 months ?

You don’t get any money for the 3 month after you apply for LCWRA it’s called a assessment period. My son waited two years for it. He was granted it and got a full back payment but it was so stressful waiting. Luckily he didn’t need a assessment as he is disabled from a brain injury but the wait is horrendous where I live so don’t rely on that money for a quite a while.

CrazyTimes123 · 18/03/2022 01:01

@Wowwwww that’s awful - and I imagine very stressful.
I’m a bit surprised this amount came through so quickly, I was expecting a bit of a wait tbh.
Was your son’s backdated to the very start of the claim ?

The LCWRA will have been backdated to the fourth assessment period after the start of the claim, assuming the fit note and WCA request happened when the claim was submitted.

Someone I know has been waiting 9 months for the work capability assessment. waiting times are long at the moment

CrazyTimes123 · 18/03/2022 12:34

@Danikm151 I wonder if that’s why the GP did a 6 month Fit Note straight away !

My daughter gets the same, UC and enhanced pip. She's 18. Our GP gave a fit note for 3 months so I had to get two for her before UC said they didn't need anymore. I never had to submit them, just declare I'd got them. She had 3 payments at the standard rate and then they added the lcwra element after a telephone assessment.

CrazyTimes123 · 18/03/2022 14:57

@Halllyup17 that’s interesting, hopefully I’ll hear about the assessment before her note expires. Is the lcwra a permanent thing or will they be looking to revisit it periodically can I ask ?

It’s so kind of you all to respond - I’m asking the professionals and they never seem to know. Thank goodness for MN x

As others have said, once they have been assessed and hopefully awarded LCWRA, it will be backdated to the fourth Uc monthly assessment period after you started handing in sick notes. So one assessed and if awarded LCWRA it will be around £600 a month. They do periodically re-assess but as your DD has needs which are unlikely to change , they may put her on a longer term review. Has she bene sent the UC50 form to complete yet? The form should be issued after 29 days of handing in sick notes but in reality can take a lot longer.

@Babyroobs I’ve had a journal message today (UCD35) telling me to expect a lcwra questionnaire- is that the same thing ?

Yes that's the one. Just make sure you fill it out as fully as possible and I would send copies of medical letters etc if possible. Hopefully she wont need an assessment and they can make the decision based just on the form.

Wowwwww · 18/03/2022 23:27

My son got it backdated from when he started claiming universal. I don’t know how as it’s not til after 3 month but the man said that’s how they worked it out. There was a lot of balls up on their end as it’s normally
after the 3 month period.
They will give you a time if they will reassess in the future if needed.
On the LCWRA form don’t feel like you are giving too much information but keep it factual. Also as many medical letters as you have. If you don’t hear back within the time frame call them and find out what’s happening or put a note in her journal and keep checking her diary as she will have a work coach for now they shouldn’t want her to job search but they will check how things are going and have regular phone calls
