Will ending Universal Credit claim end an ongoing Compliance check?

DWP Compliance Check officer is requesting bank statements for past 2 yrs to ensure the amount of my Universal credit claim is correct etc

I am about to start full time work so plan to sign off UC anyway

1/ Will ending Universal Credit claim end an ongoing Compliance check or will further investigation continue?

2/ If I re-apply for Universal Credit a few months later...will they re-open the compliance check on the previous Universal Credit claim?

I imagine they will continue with the compliance check regardless of the claim closing because they are trying to establish if you have been paid the correct amount of money and will want it back if you have.

Babyroobs · 15/03/2022 17:37

Sorry I meant to say if you have been overpaid they will want the money back.

Serialchiller · 15/03/2022 19:27

They will continue an investigation if started

ToiletGambles · 15/03/2022 19:30

Just being totally nosey but what made them start a compliance check?

77kidsandcounting · 15/03/2022 20:45

The questions you are asking tells me you know you've been claiming incorrectly. Honestly try not to worry about it just been truthful with them, i know its hard after all the horror stories you hear but chances are youll just get made to pay it back

ColgateGirl · 15/03/2022 20:47

They will continue the investigation - its not about money in the future its about what you've had to date.

Best owning up now if you think you may have claimed incorrectly

You might still be entitled to UC when working full time.
They’ll want to be sure you were paid the correct amount in the past

BMWqueen · 15/03/2022 22:17

My partner works full time and still get UC why would you sign off it ?

Lougle · 15/03/2022 22:42

No, it won't end it. You need to work with them, not avoid it.

CiderJolly · 16/03/2022 14:26

The compliance check is on you and recorded against you- if you owe money but end your claim they can deduct it from your earnings. Work with them, be honest and pay back anything you owe. Be honest going forwards.

I provided the bank statements & answered compliance officer's additional query

I called the compliance officer to find out the status of the case.
Review is now completed (it's never officially closed)

It was obvious from the conversation, a clue in the conversation, that someone had reported me

I can attest that in nearly all cases (99%), a compliance check arises because someone has reported you (by an individual or DWP staff).

It's never a random check they would have you believe.
DWP simply doesn't have the manpower to do random checks given Fraud/compliance dept are overwhelmed with ongoing cases from people reporting claimants, with or without basis

DWP staff like to use that 'random check' line (the first time you speak to them) in order for the compliance check to appear innocent & friendly so that you will start volunteering useful information that might incriminate yourself

You can’t incriminate yourself if you’ve done nothing wrong.

The best advice is to always be honest when asked.
