Tax credits underpaid?

Hey looking to find out if anyone has any experience with this……

The situation is as follows - from April last year to now - ongoing I’ve been getting 80 a week in child tax credits. This has been based off the previous years earnings of 24,000. (I went on maternity leave on the April and returned to work at the end of January.) So the actual figure this year will be closer to 14,000 because of maternity pay. I was Googling things and apparently tax credits discount the first 100 of SMP for the number of weeks you are on it. So the actual figure will be roughly 10,100. When the financial year ends next month am I likely to receive a one off payment considering I’ve been getting way under their estimated amount? I figure if I got paid more than the estimated amount then I’d owe them money so I’m thinking it should work the other way around? Has this happened to anyone else? If yes what happened? Thanks 🙏

If they owe you money it will appear as one off payments after they've sorted your renewal. This happened to me last year.

No you won't get a one off payment when the financial year ends. You may get one when your renewal is done though.

As others say, you will get it after renewal, so could be 6 months or more after end of financial year. Have you checked if you would be better off on UC?

Thanks everyone. I need to phone them in a couple of weeks anyway because my hours will be going down at work so I think I’ll just ask then :)

@StaceyH878

What happened with you situation? Did they paid you a lump sum? I'm in the same situation however I moved to universal credit a few weeks ago before I realised I wasn't meant to include the SMP to my annual income
