Good savings plan?

I have always wanted to save for my children but never really been able to afford it. I have always saved their birthday/christmas money but that has been it.

Now my DS1 has been awarded DLA, I want to save the £172 for him and DS2. I want to save the majority of it for DS1 as he will need it more but also a bit for DS2.

So, I am putting £100 a month into a 10% savings account with Halifax for DS1. For DS2, I am topping up his CTF with £20 a month.

With the other £50 I'd like to do a 10 year savings plan of some sort...university fees? first car? whatever.

Anyone know the best thing to do?

you need to see a financial adviser really because it depends on your situation and attitude to risk

I invested a small amount of the dds' savings in a high risk account but I am quite risk averse with regards to money so most of it is just in a high-interest savings account

it depends from person to person

I just want something safe really.

I want to do it in my name so that I can decide what is right to do with it when the time comes.
