Octopus Energy letter re price increases

Koalaleia · 06/03/2022 10:04

Any customers of Octopus Energy - have you had an email or letter telling you how much your bills are likely to increase after April?

Lots of people I know with other energy suppliers have had such a letter but I’m with Octopus and I haven’t as of yet. Just wondering if I’ve missed it or if they haven’t done it yet

Are you on a fixed tariff?

Gizlotsmum · 06/03/2022 10:05

I have as my fixed term is ending.

RainingYetAgain · 06/03/2022 10:52

I'm on a fix with them until June 2023 , but I have had emails about their approach to price rises. I also saw something that said they were going to come in at £50 under tariff- not sure how that works.

Hazelnut18 · 06/03/2022 10:59

I'm on variable tariff and not received anything yet.

Papyrus · 06/03/2022 11:00

I received mine this morning. But my fixed tariff is ending next month.

GalesThisMorning · 06/03/2022 11:01

I have. My tariff ends April 15th. It's going up by £110 per month. I did a price comparison online and that's still cheaper than if I switch Sad

Albgo · 06/03/2022 11:03

I'm with them and I have had a letter. I'm on a variable tariff with Octopus and my bill is going up from £100 pcm to £205 pcm Shock

ToMockAKillingBird · 06/03/2022 11:26

With Octopus after Avro went bust.
Our tariff is a variable one but fixed to December 2022. I have no idea if it’s going up in April, haven’t heard anything from them. I thought they had to give 30 days notice?

Koalaleia · 06/03/2022 11:48

I’m on variable. Maybe that’s why. Was expecting to receive something telling me my direct debit will need to go up.

I'm on the variable tarrif. I used to be with Avro. I have not heard anything yet. I have to input my March reading though. I have to input it every month. I have voluntarily upped my dd from £180 per month to £230 but I know that won't be enough. Thank goodness summer is coming. I will keep paying more while hopefully using less to build up a little buffer.

TheCanyon · 06/03/2022 12:00

I'm also on the avro variable tariff and not heard a peep yet.

PureBlackVoid · 06/03/2022 12:21

Have your rates per kwh increased?

I’m an ex Avro customer and have been wondering the same. Their FAQ about the price cap vaguely implies the Flexible Octopus rates aren’t being increased immediately. I guess they are waiting to see how many take up their fixed rate offers (which are almost double the price cap at the minute).

RosieLemonadeAndSugar · 06/03/2022 12:23

I haven't had a letter but looked online on my account. I'm currently paying £129 per month on a variable rate and if I wanted to fix the cheapest was £300 a month! Shock

BarbaraofSeville · 06/03/2022 12:24

We were also on the ex Avro tariff and got a letter a week or two ago telling us they were increasing the direct debit to cover debt and match the new costs (until now we were still paying the Avro DD amount despite it not being enough for the new prices).

However, last weekend I switched to a loyalty tariff because I'm concerned that prices will still rise in October 22. We're currently paying quite a bit more than we need to, from April it will be maybe 10-15% more, but if prices rise again in October, we should benefit, or at worst be no worse off and of course, we use more heating between October and February-ish, so it might pay off.

However, I think the deal we got about a week ago has been pulled and possibly replaced with something more expensive.

But if you're currently on the variable, you have a 'change tariff' option in your account, so look there. This is what we're on now.

hilariousnamehere · 06/03/2022 12:25

I've re-fixed with octopus, from £121 to £186 a month. There's no fee for leaving so that felt safer than waiting for the cap, but my fix ends this month so had the letter start of Feb.

cobblers123 · 06/03/2022 12:28

I'm with Octopus and variable tariff. Heard nothing yet but the last two months I have paid in lump sum to cover the debit amount after meter reading and am currently in credit by £80. I pay £60 month.

SpiritInTheNight · 06/03/2022 12:31

I’m with octopus and got an email on Friday. I’m on a variable rate already. They are offering an octopus loyalty discount of £50 per year off the variable rate which is just about at the price cap.

PuzzledObserver · 06/03/2022 17:33

I was on Flexible with Octopus for gas, and the October increase came into effect on 14th October, so I speculate the April increase will only be from 14th as well, which means they don’t need to tell people for another week and a bit.

I saw a forecast the other day that the October increase will be more than another 40%, did some maths, and asked Octpus what fixes they are offering on gas. So I’ve fixed my gas for 12 months at 9.82p/kWh - more than I would have paid per kWh staying on Flexible over the summer, but likely less than it will be over the winter. It’s a roll of the dice to be sure, but it least I can see what is coming and plan for it.

My electricity is already fixed on Go till November, and we recently installed solar and battery, plus I am invested in a wind turbine with Ripple and will get payments from that from next payments. Hoping that will keep the electricity side under control.

jytdtysrht · 06/03/2022 17:42

Companies are probably still sending them out. I had one from Eon on Monday saying it's going up by a shocking amount.

dementedpixie · 06/03/2022 21:18

Haven't had anything from Octopus yet. I went onto the SVR in January and the loyalty fixed rates are crazy prices so I'll stay on the variable for now
