Is SSE trying it on here?

I only have electric, no gas. My energy company is upping my direct debit to £156 starting this month. However it says my personal projection is going up to £1622.95 from 1st April based on my current annual usage. I work that out at £135.25 a month. I'm not in any arrears, so why are they increasing my direct debit by £20 more than it needs to be, and before the increase in April too? I know there will be another increase in October but surely it's up to me if I want to pay more in the mean time!

Standing charge?

cuno · 01/03/2022 19:12

No, it includes standing charge and VAT.

Got my projection today.

They've worked it out in my January useage which is always going to be higher due to oven and tumble dryer being on constantly so it's over inflated imo Hmm

They want to up mine to £243 a month from £123 as the highest month on record so we will see.

I've opted to pay per bill monthly so I can see what we are using.

I've just bought a one cup kettle an air fryer and a new indoor clothes airer to try and lower usage

Are you with SSE as well? January is my highest month too.

Got my email at 5pm today.
Wanted to change DD from £115, which I insisted on in November (at that stage they wanted to make it £139). Now they want it to be £169... I said no.
The calltaker 'ran a few checks' ...whatever that means... and said that it is projected to rise to £203.. I just laughed.
He said what did I want it set to... I said £130. I take meter readings every month and send them in. I will clear any outstanding amount month by month.
So DD will be £130 per month from April 1st.
Pisstakers .. the lot of them.

All the energy companies are at it! They are exploiting the removal of the price cap to line their own pockets - think about it; the more of your money they have each month, sitting in their accounts, earning interest, the more they are rubbing their hands with glee! Multiply it by the numbers of people they have as 'pay pigs', sorry customers, on their books and the figures are simply staggering. Exploitative, greedy, opportunistic - choose your own epithet

cuno · 01/03/2022 19:42

Ah so it's pure greed then. I was wondering if it's a genuine error (silly me), I have changed my direct debit online, the lowest it'll let me go is £143 so that'll do for now and then I'll reassess on my next bill, which will be in April. When adjusting my direct debit, it warns me with each pound I lower it by I'll owe them by x amount by the end of the year. But it's absolute bollocks, I've crunched all the numbers ten times and I know £135.25 is the correct amount based on last year's use. Definitely includes standing charges and VAT as the email makes it clear. I will be even more careful with energy this year though plus I will be at work (have been at home on mat leave past year) so I'm confident my energy use will be going down anyway!

Sse - the robbing fucks . Pack of scoundrels and swindlers and operated with zero functional service during the pandemic. They get away with whatever they can. Everyone should push to report sse’s mishaps to the industry regulator, until sse are forced into a corner where they have to start compensating for all their thieving from customers.

cuno · 01/03/2022 19:44

I mean it's bad enough to change my direct debit £20 higher than what it should be, but the fact the website is actually lying that I'll owe them money on a lower amount is messed up. Lots of vulnerable people will be taken advantage of by this because it'll scare them, then they'll scrape by trying to make sure they can afford their inflated direct debit before they realise the energy company owes them.

They've been utter shit, haven't they? They messed me around before and they had me on hold for 2 hours, when I got through to someone they put the phone down on me and I had to call again. Angry

They always did that we me as well and now they have moved me to OVO and not sure why

Badnightguaranteed · 01/03/2022 20:20

They’ve been atrocious.
I’ve lost my head with it and I got to the point of requesting transcripts from every communication I had with them… they claimed they were unable to provide any so basically royally screwed me with lies and no accountability.
Anyway . Atm they’re seeking to double my direct debit.

It's not really going up £1000 is it? have I read your post incorrectly?

I have no idea what you mean or where you've got that from. My annual bill is going from £1,142.35 to £1,622.95 based on my current usage.
