Tax Codes

My friend works two P/T jobs.
First job she's earns 4K per year- tax code 645L
Her newest job she earns 5.8K per year- tax code 592T
Surely this isn't correct and she shouldn't be paying any tax at all?
I thought she could earn 12.5K tax free.
(Second job she could be offered overtime but would be taxed even if it was less than the threshold allows).
Please help us make sense of this.
HMRC haven't explained this well at all.
Thanks

She could pick up shifts in second job but this would mean being taxed on them despite having personal allowance left over from job 1 iyswim?.

With those tax codes she won't be paying any tax.

HMRC cannot possibly know that she might be offered overtime in one of the jobs. If she is then her codes will probably be adjusted once the RTI is submitted.

That looks right - a 'normal' tax code would be 1257L meaning that the employee was entitled to the full personal allowance in that job.

Here that tax code is split across two jobs - giving roughly the same amount between the two codes.

In her first job it looks like they won't tax her until she reaches £6k per year, second job as the tax code is a little lower it would be about £5900.

In the end, as long as she keeps on top of it, HMRC should sort it out by adjustments to the tax code this year or next.

If she wants to check what HMRC think she will earn in each job, and adjust if it isn't right, she could register and log in to her personal tax account on the .gov.uk website and have a look there.
