ESA & Long term conditions

I have read that in some cases with severe and long term conditions they don't keep reassessing for ESA.

I might be in this group as my medical report they did said the above and also little hope of improvement. How can you find out?

I thought they reassessed every 3 years but that has came and went.

I have heard of some people in the past having long awards, but it could just be that there are still huge backlogs in assessing and re-assessing people due to the covid backlog.

OK, thanks

ESA will always be reassessed unless you have a terminal illness x

You can have up to five years before reassessment however they are running about two years behind due to Covid.

Thanks for the replies.

I called them, they told me 'from what they could see assessments have been stopped' for my ESA but I should expect one from PIP in future. (it's in 5 years)

I don't have a terminal illness but long term conditions. Last medical report said 'unlikely to work in the long term' I have seen something about how they plan to stop continually re-assessing people in that situation so maybe it is happening. Since 2017 I think it was, but only confirmed at the nest medical. My friend who has secondary MS is also in this group I think.

My daughter gets ESA and hasn’t been reassessed in years. Maybe they do a paper reassessment and don’t bother calling her in. Her last pip award was for 5 years and about 6 months after the award was granted she got a letter saying that reassessment had been pushed back a year so 6 years.

Orangesandlemons77 · 07/03/2022 10:55

My PIP letter also said six years - I think they may start the reassessment a year in advance so I assumed that was why

Yes my ESA assessments have all except the first been on paper. They write to the doctors with a form if they think you have a severe condition. Found them much better than PIP with that.
