Is there an app to track what I spend

As per title. We seem to be hemorrhaging money. Is there an app I can use (I’m sure there is I’m more looking for recommendations) where I can just tap in what I spend day to day?

Certain online bank accounts have apps that do that. Like monzo

You could also download your bank and credit card transactions to a spreadsheet and sort and add them up by category.

Advantage that you could do it with the information you have for the past few months.

I use Money Dashboard and have linked all my accounts including my credit card so it itemises what I have spent and where: bills, grocery, online shopping etc.

It is a GODSEND for budgeting and you can set budgets in the app. I use the free version.

Also tells you your overall net worth if you choose to include manual entries for savings / investments (some specialist accounts can’t be automatically linked eg my Vanguard S&S ISA nor my Premium Bonds)

Try it — you’ll love it!

I know you are asking for an app ...but just get a pad and a pencil and write it down! Keep your receipts.

Emma is a good app for keeping track of your finances - you link it to your bank account at it automatically analyses your spend and keeps you on budget. You set limits for different categories (e.g. travel, grocieries, entertainment) and it works out what you've spent in what category.

YNAB is brilliant - revolutionised my budgeting.

ChocAuVin · 15/02/2022 15:56

Agree YNAB is good but it’s not free. Key YNAB wisdom:

  1. give every £1 a job - zero sum budgeting
  2. embrace your true expenses - be realistic about those ‘unexpected’ items that tank a budget (which, upon reflection, are TOTALLY expected)
  3. roll with the punches (be flexible with your budget categories to stay on track)
  4. age your money - get a month or more ahead with funding your budget categories by ‘maturing’ your money in your account rather than spending back down to empty each month and thus filling up with brand-new £££

Another vote for YNAB, it's worth the cost imho and you get the first month free.

I have a referral code which gives new users and I another free month.

I have a free one called 'spending' with a picture of a wallet. Quite basic but great for what I want.

DappledOliveGroves · 15/02/2022 16:22

YNAB isn't free but given how much I've saved over the years it's absolutely worth the monthly subscription!

If you want something for your computer as opposed to your phone, then Microsoft money is an excellent programme and now available as a free download and it works fine on Windows 11
