Hi does anyone know how long probate is currently taking, for a very simple application.

Banks have varying degrees of amounts they are willing to transfer over without private

Some are £50k other £20k

But I’m not sure if you have less as you said, no to my question

Have a look online at the banks guidance to do this online

One of my Banks was very difficult after probate was granted for my late dh. Wanted Id from all executors including photos passports driving licences and bank details even though I was the only beneficiary, was already an account holder with the bank, we had had some joint accounts and I had been in with death certificate and copy of will.

Added another 6 weeks to the process before they released the monies. Other banks sent monies after receiving probate certificate

ElinoristhenewEnid

All banks seem to be different

Lloyds were very easy to deal with and all done in 24 hrs
Barclays ok but took weeks to actually do anything

Both all done online, Did identification online and death certificates

@ivykaty44

I did it online and they kept rejecting the information saying our photos were not clear enough and wanting further documents scanned/ photographed.

Had to keep chasing them and they would come back with further requests.

Ironically the money was transferred into my current account with this bank that I had held jointly with my late dh! So why did I have to prove further who I was?

its madness, isn't it

I had one bank wanted the death certificate certified - I patiently explained that the certificate they had was certified (scanned it and circled the part that states certified by name of officer)but I would go back to the same register and get her to certify the certificate a second time - but they'd have to give me a reason as to why they wanted it done twice...they decided that on this occasion it didn't need to be certified again

My mother died last spring. We had a hideous 18 weeks trying to get through probate for a very simple will as executors. HMRC trashed the original will in scanning (DO NOT SEND THEM THE ORIGINAL).

After plenty of phone calls that usually took 20 minutes to get through to a human and then another 15 minutes whilst they looked to see what was going on, I found that "webchat" early on a Saturday morning tended to move things on. Especially when you send them the previous webchat. If you see that option offered, grab it and ask it to email/record the transcript'. It rarely appeared when I wanted to chase things up.

Scanned documents get mis-filed/lost and then you are "stopped" and nobody bothers to tell you that you are "held" unless you ask.

After 8 weeks you are allowed to ask (though possibly not if you aren't executors).

The Martin Lewis forums should probably give you a better idea about how it is all "working".

I sincerely wish you the best of luck at a time when people should try so hard to make things simple.

I used a firm called Farewill
Cost me £750 inc probate fees and it was done in 7 weeks
That was in October

You are all making me cry with frustration - parent died days before lockdown and not from covid. Took 10 months to get probate and the we hit wave 2 and everything with the estate stalled - banks working from home are arseholes!!
We have just in the last week closed everything - so 23 months.

I am dreading finding anything else that we missed.
