Mortgage application & ID documents - please help I’m so stressed

Hi, I’ve had an offer accepted on a flat and yesterday my broker put the mortgage application in and instructed the solicitor. He’s said to me to have my ID documents ready as they’ll want to see them and it’s hit me (stupid not to have realised before) that there’ll be a delay in getting these - I live with a housemate atm and all utility bills etc are in her name. Also my passport is damaged (photo is blurred because of a drink spilt on it) and my driving licence has my old address on it. I’ve informed the DVLA now of my current address and have booked an appointment for a replacement passport but won’t get that until 2 weeks from now. I’m so worried this will jeopardise the application if it takes me 2 weeks to provide these documents, and feel stupid that I hadn’t got all this stuff sorted already. Has anyone experienced this issue/have any advice??

What about a bank statement with your address on?

Peeeas · 29/01/2022 08:13

Change your address with your bank - should get you address id fairly quickly.

Hey yes have updated my address at my bank but concerned that that’s only one proof of address and they may ask for two, plus I still need either passport/DL for photo ID I think. Honestly losing sleep over this I’m that stressed

Usually only need one photo ID and one proof of address for most purposes. I updated my address on my driving licence recently, and it only took about 3 days to arrive.

No real advice, but I honestly don't know how this is supposed to work for some people. Anyone who lives with their parents is unlikely to have bills in their name, and often in London won't have a driving licence. Maybe a mobile phone contract?

Peeeas · 29/01/2022 08:27

Ps a 2 week delay in a mortgage application really isn't that unusual, these things take time for various reasons, including docs requests.

Peeeas · 29/01/2022 08:28

And I wasn't asked for ID on my most recent mortgage application - they can do a lot via electronic checks these days.

Are you in a chain? And in England? If so it's a sloooow process and you're unlikely to be the ultimate hold-up if you're buying from rental.

And if you're not in a chain everyone will be more laid back as there's much less that can go wrong.

Also wait and see what ID options they offer. Not everyone has a passport or driving license at all. And is the ID needed to kick off any processes, or just before money changes hands? If the latter you have much more time in hand.

Are you on the voters roll?

Don't stress OP, house moving is slow going at the moment so waiting a few days for your driving licence won't make shigella amount of difference. We had an offer accepted in October and had everything uploaded within 24 hours, mortgage offered within a week etc and we still haven't moved!

Agadorsparticus · 29/01/2022 08:52

The driving licence should come back within a week.

Itstimetobegin5678 · 29/01/2022 08:55

Just be honest with your solicitor and explain. A 2 week delay is nothing. We had longer than that as Nationwide declined our mortgage at the last fence and we had to apply via another company. P.s my driving license can back so quickly recently I hadn't had time to post my old one back.

Jmaho · 29/01/2022 08:58

I work for a mortgage lender. Often we don't need ID or address docs due to electronic verification. If we do you can use a driving licence with an old address on if being used for the ID part not the address part. Then a bank statement for the address part

Make sure your pay slips and proof of any bonuses/ overtime are ready for the application too
