Income Tax - owe HMRC again?!?

Can anyone help me with these tax code changes and why I now suddenly owe HMRC more money to be repaid by April 2023 when it should have all been resolved by this April 2022, per the last letter and tel call I had with them.

My tax code for the past year has been 1203l to allow a repayment. I have now moved jobs (less money) and my tax code has been reduced further to 1152l.

I received my last pay from my last job with a minus on my tax of £56 and in my new job I have had the standard tax code for the 1st month 1253l/whatever it is. They then had the 1203l from my p45 but hmrc has sent a letter to me saying it will be that lower number. The back of the letter says they previously told me I owed them £209.....this was due to be paid by April 2022...so where are they getting it is now April 2023? I've put a SAR into Hmrc to try and shed light on it, but if anyone is a bit au fait with hmrc/income tax I'd be greatful for guidance /reasons!!!!

Is it that both jobs gave you your personal allowance in the same month? I've had that before, due to when I changed jobs in the month, meaning I got paid by both companies in one month (which then meant I didn't have my P45 in time for my first pay, but the figures also didn't catch up afterwards).

You need to call and ask, they're generally helpful. If you do call and get someone who you think is useless - just put the phone down and call back.

That's always worked for me.

Well we finally got through and @NoWordForFluffy you got it.... Another year of not getting my full pay. Such is life.

I never had this problem until RTI went live, and I've had it happen twice now (June 2019 when I changed jobs and then Oct 2020 when I changed again). Apparently even giving your new company the P45 doesn't iron this problem out. 🤷‍♀️
