Side business/extra income

Hi

I'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas for a sideline business or making extra income alongside being a mum and working part time ..

I live in the South East with a high mortgage, 2 kids and another on the way. Got a few things we need to pay for such as a new car, house repairs etc. I can't see us ever having any spare money and with me having another baby this year, my job situation is a bit uncertain. I would love to have an extra income which I could fit in around family life.

I appreciate if it was that easy everyone would be doing it, but just wondered if anyone has managed to generate extra income without taking on another proper job.

Thank you!

Have a search for the £10 a day threads on one of the boards here. Might be money matters not sure. There's lots of ways to make spare cash, sometimes they are time consuming but others aren't. I've never gotten into it all properly but I've made a few hundred in a few days over the years so the money is there if you look!

If you're not vulnerable to gambling and maths minded, there is an easy enough initial sum to be made from Matched Betting. I made about £1200 with the intitials offers but then gave up as to continue requires a bit more thought and skill. I used Team Profit as my guide.

I also find it relatively easy (but boring!) to make about £5 a day doing Qmee surveys. It just takes tenacity.

I always think it's surprising how much can be made from reselling things lying about the house. Good condition but stuff you just hang onto out of habit - but never actually use.

Check things like pension tax relief (if you are a higher rate PAYE tax payer and your pension is taken out after your tax you may be due 20% back).

Buy as much as you can through sites like QuidCo - only if it makes financial sense to - as the cashback there adds up. I've just claimed £150 ish from the last year or so of buying, which is not huge but is all stuff I would have bought, at those prices anyway.

We buy job lots of vintage and antique jewellery from auction. Clean it and sell on eBay and at fairs in the summer. Very good profit.

Switch bank accounts. We did this and made £300

How do you know what will sell?
Jane1978xx · 02/02/2022 16:51

@ReadySteadyTwins anything will sell in the end even as a job lot. I do research on eBay and see sold prices. You can also buy jewellery for less than scrap price and just scrap it in for profit. Some items may be a small loss but it’s a good profit overall.

I joined the £10 a day thread a couple of years ago and now earn enough from home that I could give up my real job. My side hustle became my real job and I earn more than I used to

Check it out, changed my life

Wow thanks so much for all your suggestions, definitely got some options to try and glad it's a possibility!

Also if you have any skill like cake baking or photography etc

So "real" stuff then. Like gold, silver, gemstones? Not costume stuff?

My friend started working for Uber Eats just before Christmas and makes good money working a couple of hours here and there.

What the... where do I find this?!
AdaShelby · 02/02/2022 21:15

@KarenTheGammonRemoaner it's on here, in the money section. A user called Ottersea set it up about 2 years ago and lots of us have been able to earn more from home than we earned in real jobs. Actually maybe it was 3 years ago now. But life changing.
