Accident Injury Solicitors

In 2018 I had a car accident - someone went into my car. At the time Accident Injury Solicitors (AIS)called me (not sure how they got my number) and gave me the impression that it was from the insurance and I gave them all the details. I stupidly signed their paperwork electronically.
In the meantime, the insurance company from the person who crashed into me offered me a payout, which I accepted.
AIS said they wanted me to see a doctor, I told them by phone, not by email that I was no longer interested in pursuing the case as I'd settled with the insurance. They now are chasing me to pay them £453. Should I pay them and chalk it up to my own stupidity for signing their paperwork? They didn't do anything to help me with my claim against the insurance, all they did was set up the doctor appointment.

Ask for copies of the paperwork; be vague, call it their papers/their file and avoid the word ‘contract’ and a copy of their itemised bill. Best case scenario it scares them off and you hear no more. Worst case they send it and up the ante by saying if you don’t pay they’ll pursue a ‘small claim’ in the county court. At that point you have 1 of 2 options: call their bluff, tell them you’ve got no intention of paying because you were misled into signing and their fees are inflated and unreasonable; consider going to local press as the company don’t sound the type to be regulated by a trade organisation. If they do issue a court claim, defend it - your local CAB or local authority debt clinic will be able to advise you.
