Another PIP One!

MRSAHILL · 20/01/2022 19:52

Sorry to mention the dreaded pip again but I've just posted off my dhs completed review form today and have yet another query. He was originally granted pip for 2 and a half years and then it got supposedly extended, without him doing anything, till Nov 22 due to Covid. However, they surprised us a couple of weeks ago with the dreaded brown envelope. Since then I've had it explained to me by some very helpful mumsnetters that they can review it whenever they like but usually do it a few months before the date it was granted till. If that's the case then, what if you only get granted pip for one year? For example, If they look at my dhs form and grant it for a year from, say, February 22 to February 23 will they come back to him 6 months before Feb 23 and ask us to complete a review? That would mean we've completed a form in January, obtained all evidence etc then could possibly have to do it all again around July! It's taken me over a week to fill this one in on his behalf (he is seriously mentally ill). I don't think I could face doing another one again so soon. Any replies much appreciated. Thanks!

Yes. So keep a copy because if they do that you can just send the same evidence all over again assuming needs haven’t changed.

MRSAHILL · 20/01/2022 20:46

SilenceOfThePrams thank you, I did take a copy of the completed form thank goodness. I just dread the thought of more anxiety all over again, wondering if he's going to be successful. Although, I'm jumping the gun as we haven't even been granted it yet this time!

It is horrible that when help is needed most it becomes so incredibly difficult to access.

MRSAHILL · 20/01/2022 20:59

@TerrifiedandWorried yes, it's almost as if they want you to be anxious and stressed isn't it.

The whole process is just so utterly miserable and rage inducing.

SBParker99 · 05/05/2022 12:09

@MRSAHILL sorry to message, have you had a decision yet, how long did it take and was it paperbased just im in the same position and super anxious

RoseOud · 05/05/2022 12:43

The same thing happened to me.
My claim was extended because of covid then I received the dreaded letter.

I thought I would have to attend another interview, but that wasn't the case. It was a just the usual form were they wanted you to tell them of any changes since the last claim. I did get a phone call with a small query, but that was that.

I didn't find it as long winded as the last claim I did and much easier. Not only that, but I was granted an increase and the claim was given to me for 10 years.

No where near as bad as what I was expecting. Took about 8 weeks start to finish.

SBParker99 · 05/05/2022 13:16

@RoseOud where abouts are you? i’m in north west england, just that i know it depends on areas and how busy it is apparently. is that 8 weeks from you sending the form of to a decision and if your claim went up did you get it backdated?

I am in the north west.
I made a note as when I sent form back, 7 weeks later got a call from DWP, then just a few days later the money landed in my account (along with the backdated increase).
I think the letter came a week after that.
HTH.

Sorry to hijack but is the PIP assessment as unpleasant and draconian as I've been hearing with claims denied and reconsiderations and tribunals necessary? Thanks

SBParker99 · 05/05/2022 15:17

@RoseOud thsnk you for getting back to me, how long ago was this?

PeacockPartyTime · 05/05/2022 15:19

I'm hijacking too (sorry) I've also had a few extensions due to Covid but I'll probably get my renewal letter early next year as it ends in June 2023. Anyway, literally nothing has changed. If I just tick that nothing has changed, will I definitely get it again? I only get the mobility element and I rely on the car.

SBParker99 · 05/05/2022 15:28

@CherryRipe1 i think it depends who you get, my assessment went ok, but the women was snappy and bored, they don’t 100% listen, i didn’t get points for certain things i should of but was still awarded

SBParker99 · 05/05/2022 15:30

@PeacockPartyTime mine was extended to november “22 i recieved my form last month and still waiting (sent it of straight away) like you i only have mobility and rely on the car. Hopefully it stays the same (i put no changes) i’ll keep you updated if you like

Thank you @SBParker99

PeacockPartyTime · 05/05/2022 15:34

Thanks. That would be helpful! I have epilepsy that hasn't changed. I mean, how else can I phrase that? They've refused me care twice so I've given up the ghost on that.

MRSAHILL · 05/05/2022 15:53

I live in Chorley, Lancashire and we got a letter last week awarding my dh 11 points. So, he gets standard rate Pip same as last time, with exactly the same number of points for 3 years but possible review again after 2. They just went off the review form we returned and the documents I enclosed, care plan and copy prescription. We had no phone call and no interview so it was a massive relief.

SBParker99 · 05/05/2022 15:57

@MRSAHILL how long did it take from start to finish?

MRSAHILL · 05/05/2022 16:00

I returned the forms on 21st January and got their letter on 28th April. I had rung to check progress previously and was told it was taking about 14 weeks for review forms to be looked at. It was awarded from 21st April for 3 years. I believe they are absolutely snowed under with work at the moment.

Photocopy form you sent in but also evidence from physiotherapist or consultant or whatever. Make 2 copies and put in different places in case you lose one.

SBParker99 · 05/05/2022 15:17

@RoseOud thsnk you for getting back to me, how long ago was this?

I sent the form back 30/9/21, got the phone call 14/11/21 (Sunday morning!) then the following week, got the money in my account (my usual PIP payday, with the backdated increase).

The letter came some time after, about a week, with all the details.

SBParker99 · 24/06/2022 18:20

@PeacockPartyTime hi i remember i said i’d let you know how it went, on mobility questions i put “no change, still the same” i sent it back in march, i recieved a letter today extending my award by three years with no changes, no assessment needed etc, took about 9 weeks overall, easdirt than the original process and quicker, i didn’t send any new evidence either
