To bother selling baby clothes?

Does anyone actually bother selling their children's clothes? I have mountains of them in great condition. Lots have only been worn once or twice.

I've tried listing on eBay before but they don't seem to sell or people want them for pennies!
Does anyone have any tips?

Or shall I just charity shop? They are taking up far too much space now

If you've tried selling them but been unsuccessful then your only other options are to try to sell elsewhere, bin, or donate to a charity shop. Have you tried your local facebook selling group?

We sold at an NCT nearly new sale. It's a faff, but a one off faff, which I personally find less tiresome than eBay. Quite a bit sold and the rest went straight to charity shop.

I've only ever sold on local Facebook groups. I'd never bother with posting off tens' of small packages. But local Facebook groups in bundles for £5/10 per bundle and larger items like coats / snow suits - all have sold well.
Slightly grubbier stuff I've put together as a full season for a nursery bundle and they've been snapped up. So I will list ten t shirts, 5 leggings, 3 jumpers as 'girls 2-3 summer winter nursery bundle' Free and have had lots of interest. I know it wouldn't have sold at £1 per piece on ten charity shop but perfect for messy play

I used to eBay my own stuff lots over the years (pre legging life of covid!)

I've bought nearly everything (clothes wise) for our new arrival on eBay. Are you bundling them up by size or brand and selling as 'lots' rather than individual items?

I'd also put them on as a 'buy it now' rather than auction

I've spent the last week selling on Vinted and can share my experience!

I went through everything and picked out Joules, Boden, John Lewis, Frugi, Ted Baker etc. Everything else got donated. As I was doing all of my son's clothes from 18m - 6 years that left me with 2 really big bags to sell.

I listed mostly in age bundles to try to shift them in bulk. Individual listings were only for specific items like coats.

I put them on CHEAP. A lot of clothes are listed at prices that are too high because people are thinking about what they bought them for. Forget that. What price would you be willing to traipse to the parcel shop for? That's your price. Generally £1.50 - 2.50 per item.

The other kind of bundle I've had success with is character bundles ie 'paw patrol aged 3-4 bundle' where I've just gathered up everything paw patrol in that age and sold it as one.

Photos of the whole bundle together then separate items otherwise people ask for more photos

Say in the blurb you won't split the bundle otherwise you get loads of messages asking you to sell one item individually etc

Set yourself a time limit of a fortnight or a month or whatever. If you haven't sold it in that time, donate.

It has taken up a lot of my time. I've quite enjoyed it because I'm on maternity leave and I'm enjoying going through all my son's old things and remembering him wearing them. I live really close to the parcel shop though so happy to go out each day with parcels ready to send in the buggy. If it was further (or if I was working) I wouldn't bother.

Hope that helps!

Btw I've started to use Vinted as the seller fees on eBay are astronomical. One Vinted the buyer pays the fees, but this is reflected in the lower prices per item.

Georgeskitchen · 17/01/2022 11:32

Sell them.in bundles on Vinted. If they are good quality and not too expensive they will probably sell. I love Vinted its sooo easy to use

TulipVictory · 17/01/2022 11:51

Maybe I should try Vinted then, I've started buying on Vinted and the experience is great compared to eBay

I let pregnant friends pick through them to take what they like and the rest go to charity shops. If there's any special bits that I really love then I put them away in case I have another one in the future but I don't like holding on to too much.

Panda2020 · 17/01/2022 15:45

I’ve sold lots of my sons 9-12m clothes on Vinted recently. Have to price them for a sale like £1-2 each item or set. Most have been sold quite quickly actually. I prefer selling them even at a token price as it normally means some other babies will wear them, but if giving to charity shops I’m not sure if they will be worn again.

girlmom21 · 17/01/2022 15:47

To be honest the only things I've bought second hand are snowsuits.

If you're going to sell clothes do it in bundles of good quality stuff.

TulipVictory · 17/01/2022 20:26

@Panda2020 why wouldn't they be worn again if they go to charity shops? 🤔

We bought bundles on marketplace (adopted a baby at very short notice). I always Facebook stalk the seller to see if they have dogs / smoking, etc on their profile pics. I like that they are local so I can often see things before committing to buy. It meant we had things we needed quickly and we don't worry if they get food all over them (stains!!) x

I think because they can't sell them for much they often go for rags.

Panda2020 · 17/01/2022 21:04

Yes I agree

yaboreme · 17/01/2022 21:22

I googled my local (local-ish) womens shelter and took the lot.

CrimbleCrumble1 · 19/01/2022 20:00

My friend’s daughter sold them in bundles on
Facebook.

SNorm · 12/08/2022 10:43

Hello,

Can anyone recommend a table top / jumble sale in Bristol where I can sell baby / children clothes & maternity wear that are in really good condition?
I’ve tried Vinted, Ebay and Facebook groups but would like to be able to take it all to one place.

Many thanks

Mam576 · 13/08/2022 23:13

Highly recommend Vinted, great experience all round

SNorm · 14/08/2022 00:32

Thanks, I’ve tried Vinted. I was hoping to have a table / stall vsomewhere so I can take everything to one place instead of having to list things on sites. I’ll give Vinted another go.
