PIP Review Time Period

MRSAHILL · 07/01/2022 21:02

My dh receives PIP for mental health issues and was told he'd been awarded it until November 2022, so was shocked today to receive the dreaded brown envelope asking him to complete the review forms by the end of January. I've started completing the forms but just have a couple of queries and wondered if any mumsnetters could kindly help me. From receipt of the forms, how long does it usually take the DWP to deal with them? I've read online that it can take months, depending on where you live. We are in Chorley, near Preston, Lancashire and I wondered if anyone knows how long reviews are taking in this area? Also, whilst the review is taking place will my dh continue to receive payments? Even if it takes the DWP a long time to deal with his review? Any advice much appreciated!

My friend submitted her review in August and has not heard anything yet, she lives in Cornwall though. She has continued to receive payments.

SilverHairedCat · 07/01/2022 21:45

At the moment, my friend has been waiting since January last year and was told last week it could be up to another 9 months in the interim, she has no income from PIP and is heavily in debt as she's unable to work. Her ESA etc doesn't cover even the basics. It's a fucking disgrace, as we had to go to tribunal for the last award.

MRSAHILL · 07/01/2022 21:55

@NursieBernard thanks, I was worried his payments would stop whilst his claim was being reviewed.

@SilverHairedCat so sorry to hear about your friend, that sounds like they are taking way too long to deal with her review. Is that in the Chorley/Preston Lancashire area? I'd be tempted to see if her local MP could help. It's a terrible system and I hope your friend is OK.

Unfortunately we're in the SW and our local Tory MP is appalling and didn't even reply to begs for help in the run up to the tribunal either....

She's really struggling financially and emotionally but we've been here before and expect to do it again.

The system is beyond broken.

It is because there is such a backlog that they are sending the review forms out so early. It used to be around six months before the award ended.

MRSAHILL · 09/01/2022 12:11

@Babyroobs do you happen to know how long they are taking to deal with reviews once you have returned the paperwork and if you definitely still get paid whilst they are reviewing it? Thank you

My dd gets DLA and her award should have ended/renewed on her birthday in December. I got the renewal forms through in about September last year and received the letter saying it would continue on her actual birthday, which was when it would have ended/restarted. They're apparently going so close to the wire because they're catching up with people whose awards should have ended/renewed during lockdown, and they extended those for 6 months and now have a backlog.

You should continue to get the money til the renewal date, but depending how far they've caught up, you might not hear anything til the end date, if that makes sense. It sounds like they're trying to get on top of it by sending out the forms a lot earlier than they usually would.

MRSAHILL · 09/01/2022 12:53

@PaulRuddsWife thanks for that. My dh was one of the people who had pip extended during the lockdown. He was told it would be granted till 27th November 2022 but then received this review form the other day which was dated 27th December 2021.

I sent off a PIP change of circumstances they received it August 2nd. I heard a few days ago that I have an assessment appointment in a couple of weeks. Following an accident I now need care 24/7, but had to wait 3 months before I could even apply for a change. I am expecting it to be close to a year on from my accident before I actually get a decision. My appointment is on the phone so I have no idea how they can actually make one anyway.

ArnoldBee · 09/01/2022 13:03

Where you live has no bearing on processing times as the work is put into pots according to the type of work. I understand you have concerns as you thought you were safe until November 2022 but it is literally because they are taking so long they've sent it out early. To date they are being paid in the meantime and dates are being extended.

MRSAHILL · 09/01/2022 13:15

@dancingthroughthedark I'm so sorry to hear about your accident. I hope things get sorted out for you soon x

@ArnoldBee Thanks so much for that information. Yes, you are correct in that we thought we were safe until November 2022 and, even though I was aware they could review it at anytime, its still been a shock to get the review forms in January.

The aim is to get the review completed within 6 months of the end date and a decision made .....if you are downgraded or lose the PIP it will be stopped from the date of the decision.....so this could be prior to the November date you already have....in reality....it will probably be around the August/September mark I would Guesstimate

MRSAHILL · 09/01/2022 13:30

@Kitkat151 Thank you for that information.

My daughter was switched from DLA to pip, a couple of years ago. I sent the forms in April and it took until December to get an assessment, 'cos covid, you know? Her DLA would have run out the following March. Crappy system. Fortunately I didn't have to submit a mr because she just scraped enough points, but what they sent back was utter bollocks (she's a selectively mute girl with autism and they said she has no problems communicating - she wouldn't speak to the assessor and barely speaks to me!)

MRSAHILL · 11/01/2022 19:13

@stingofthebutterfly sorry to hear you had such a long time to wait. That must have been really stressful for you both. I'm glad your daughter was successful in the end and didn't have to go through the stress of MR.

Ok so I have pip, also a mobility car for the three year award. 6 months before the three year award ran out, I filled in all the paperwork and sent it back. My three year lease on the car ended Sept 2021, yes you read it right 2021 ! Every three months I had a text stating my car I could keep until my actual second assessment, on and on it went. I have now still got the same car, and I have had it four years and four months. I had my second assessment second week in December 2021, and still waiting for a decision. I had an email to state pip do not need any more information so it’s a waiting game I’m afraid. But from filling in the form it has taken 15 months for the telephone consultation.

MenaiMna · 10/01/2023 01:17

Mine was due March23. I was asked to do paper review (four weeks notice) in October22. The guidance implied they were looking for changes in condition. I needed a two week extension to 13 November (due to ill health haha) and was told on phone when requesting this that:
A if I hadn't responded in time without asking for the extension I'd have been cut off
B if I did respond in time and not in better health my next payment arriving would be a confirmation of continuation (which I got in bank end of November)
C changes for the worse would be reviewed, might be subject to an assessment interview, which would then perhaps result in higher rate award in March 23 i.e.: my original two yr review date.
So if you send it in and keep getting paid- you're alright.
Hope that makes sense.

notmaryberry · 10/01/2023 07:15

My DDs was extended to Oct 23 but we received the review forms last month. When I called to check they had been received I was told it could be a year until they are assessed.

Spenn · 10/01/2023 08:34

DP's renewal was submitted in March last year and apart from the odd text
To say they have it, we're still waiting. I'm guessing the year timescale above is about right

Bekindnotarsey · 10/01/2023 10:38

Yes correct, mine was 16 months😩
