According to the letter they owe me £330 for the month of December and two weeks pay from November. At the end of november they gave me the months money of £330 but not the 2 weeks money that they owe me from November. It's now the 30th of December and I'm getting worried they won't pay it or if I don't claim it in time they won't owe it to me anymore? Mum has said I need to wait until the end of January. Which sounds ridiculous to wait for money they owe me from november.

@JinglyJingles

The letter reads 'We will pay you £167.40 into the account your appointee provided. This is money we owe you from november 17th-30th of november 2021.

We will then pay your benefit into your account every four weeks on a Tuesday.'

They payed me the £334.80 (a months money) on december 24th

Has the dla juat changed from being paid to a parent for a child and now being paid to you as you turned 16? And it hasn't been put over to pip yet?

I read the above as 167.40 will go to someone else (your mum) and then it will start to be paid to your account

^^ that’s what I’ve been saying. I think that’s more likely than a mistake.

Duh missed that you'd already said that!
PeaceONoeuf · 30/12/2021 19:07

Needadviceagaon Oh no I was agreeing with you, have been through the transition in England with one child to teen.

Needadviceagain · 30/12/2021 19:12

@PeaceONoeuf I have a 14yo and am dreading it already! Sorry all, have derailed the thread slightly due to having brain fart moments and not reading full thread. @JinglyJingles does what we've guessed seem likely?

PeaceONoeuf · 30/12/2021 19:32

@Needadviceagain I wish I had told my child we had extra help towards costs earlier because when I had to raise it at 16 it was pretty stressful - he is very rigid and wanted an itemised account of how it had been used and insisted he received it but couldn’t then see how his needs were enmeshed in household costs (eg extra water or fuel, petrol etc). My second child we did it differently and he has asked me to handle the pip, I’ve explained how it works and how we could budget so he takes on some things and it’s been fine.

JinglyJingles · 30/12/2021 19:42

She's said not to phone and that Its payed in arrears (whatever that means?) So I'll get whatever I'm owed at the end of january

@PeaceONoeuf

I've seen it on multiple threads now about kids receiving disability living allowance using more water and petrol etc but for what reason is this the case I take a reasonable amount of showers one or twice a weem change my clothes every day as everyone else does and have only been out walking this year using the car only a handful of times

JinglyJingles · 30/12/2021 19:51

I understand not everyone who's receiving disability living allowance the is same but it seems quite widespread that they use things extra like extra water and I can't imagine why

PeaceONoeuf · 30/12/2021 19:58

@JinglyJingles so in our family we have extra costs for (off the top of my head):
Water (sensory need)
Water (washing soiled clothing and bedsheets more frequently than usual (continence)
Petrol (impossible to use public transport so driving to appointments or trips out)
Fuel (increased use of washing machine for soiled clothing/bedding)
Replacement clothing due to continence and chewing
Replacement items due to issues with motor skills
Specific foods (sensory/ritual)
And also individual identifiable items like a laptop, a weighted blanket, social opportunities.

No one jump on me please - I’m not trying to justify anything just giving examples.

JinglyJingles · 30/12/2021 20:00

Wow those are so many costs even what I get wouldn't pay for all that

Just call them tomorrow. It's not a bank holiday, there will be someone there and you may well get through quicker as people may be less likely to call

RandomMess · 30/12/2021 20:29

Paid in arrears means that the first payment was from 17th Nov to 16th Dec (ish)

PicaK · 30/12/2021 22:14

In arrears means they pay you at the end of the time period (which is 4 weeks).
If they paid you at the start of the 4 week period it would be "up front".
Just about everyone in the UK gets paid in arrears. It's normal.

The letter looks like it’s referencing two different bank accounts. Looks like the money from November has gone into a different account from the December money. You got your December money. I think the November money has more than likely been paid into your mums account?

Yes, I think so too. I got confused because DD1's DLA is going into the same account it always has, but they paid 2 weeks worth to cover her last 2 weeks of being 15, then 4 weeks after that, her first 'post-16' payment.

If your Mum was receiving the DLA and not passing it to you before you were 16, then that £167.40 is the last of those payments.
