We receive a small amount of UC.
DH as it stands doesn't pay into a pension. Therefore this is going to be a big issue in the future.

Were trying ro work out a way to afford even 50 a month to pay into his pension

How does this affect UC.

Also should his employer have been paying into a pension even if he didn't.
He's worked there 4 years.

If you pay in to a private/occupational pension this amount is disregarded 100% by UC. So not included when they decide on your monthly award.

As for his employer your DH should have been automatically enrolled in the workplace pension scheme if they are legally obliged to unless your DH:
Opted out or
The employer does not have to contribute if your DH earn these amounts or less:
£520 a month
£120 a week
£480 over 4 weeks.

If you pay into a pension then your take home pay will reduce. This adapted amount will then be used to calculate your UC entitlement. Use the tirn2us website to play with the numbers

There was a thread some years ago that someone worked. Paid a massive amount into their pension and therefore got full tax credits.

Thank you.
They enrolled him but he did opt out at the time due to the fact we couldn't afford anything. Thank you.

He can opt back in at any time but he will have to pay 5%.
