Tax credit to universal credit

I have moved from tax credits to universal credit this week as I was advised to , can anyone give me advice on will my tax credit payment automatically stop and I will not receive any further payment or is it still the 4 week run over rule? Any advice would be appreciated

It will stop as soon as you make the UC claim. There's no 4 week run on.

Who advised you to do that is there anyway you can go back ?

Lots of people are better off on Uc especially if working with the new work allowances and taper rates.

I was advised to by my local council to get help towards housing cost ,I did a entitled to calculation and was told I would be better to switch to universal credit

Why didn't you apply for housing benefit and keep your tax credits?

Piggyk2 · 13/01/2022 16:45

To be honest I wouldn't move if you don't have to. I know it seems its too late for you OP.

I have been on UC and the hardest thing is paying ALL your childcare costs upfront.... its a killer... claiming them back is a nightmare where as WT you can just call them and they pay you easily..

The only advantage I can take from UC is.. if you earn less in a month or whatever they will top you up.. other than that O would not advise anyone to switch to UC.

You can't go back. As everyone will be on UC eventually.

In order to claim housing benefit I had to go through universal credit as it’s changed to coming under universal credit when it’s a new claim ,

I think there is a run on period now.
My mom had a 2 week run on for her housing benefit until UC was claimed.
Did you apply for the advance?

Yes I wouldn’t advise if you don’t have to , it’s been a nightmare with trying to work it out , I wasn’t allowed to claim my childcare cost back as it was before I put my claim in and was becoming confused with it all but I’m getting my head round it

I didn’t receive a run on from tax credits, but this was a new claim for housing benefit , yes I was offered a advance from universal credit which I took to cover any cost over the Christmas period

I’m not too sure how it all works to be truthful,I just done what I was advised to do from my local council and the entitled to calculator

Some of the replaced benefits do have a two week run on but not tax credits

If your old benefits haven't ended, you can keep getting them for 2 weeks after you apply for Universal Credit. You won't need to pay back the extra payments and they won't affect how much Universal Credit you'll get. This applies to:

income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance

income-related Employment and Support Allowance

Income Support

Housing Benefit
