do all companies have to be registered at companies house??

All "ltd" and "plc"s do, yes. That said, not all companies are up to date...

If incorporated in England & Wales, yes. Some overseas companies have their branches registered there too. Scottish companies registered in Scotland, NI in NI, etc.

If you're dealing with something that says it's a company but doesn't appear to be registered at Companies House, might either be a non-English company or an outfit using a company-ish name as a business (ie trading) name. Not sure about extent that's allowed. Have you had a look on the Cos Hse website? - usually quite good with leaflets and FAQs.

ty binkie, a couple of mnetters have paid some money to a company. Another mn'r has had a few leaflets from companies in same area/address.(here ) I will get them to come to this thread.

Ta. Interesting that the zactival website is .com, which for me would suggest US entity. Yet more interesting is the fact that I can't access the website. Can anyone? If you can, the "contacts" page would usually give you the name of the company, if it is one. (Doesn't have to be a company to trade, of course - could be an unincorporated entity trading under a business name.)
