No insurance quote

I have always been on dh’s company car insurance policy so after Dh lost his job last year and after 35 blemish free years of driving I am looking to get a car insurance policy in my name.

I am looking at leasing/buying an all electric car (if that makes a difference) but I can’t find anyone who will even quote to insure me.

We have a car that is owned by dh that I am named driver on and I have a large company van that I use as my go to car if I couldn’t drive the company car. (Bit impractical/impossible to park in multi-storey car parks or marked bay parking). I don’t really like driving dh’s car as it is so small.
But nothing really in my sole name.

I am thinking of the future as I do know that I might be charged a little more because I have never really had any car in my name before but was hoping that it would rapidly go down if I continue driving the way I always do.

Any suggestions what I do?

I was expecting high premiums but not to have a single quote has thrown me.

Have you actually spoken with an insurance broker or are you just trying to source quotes online?

Kennykenkencat · 03/12/2021 13:40

Just done on line.

Never had this problem before. Even for dc as new drivers and Dd who had points on her licence.

Will have to get in touch with a broker.

Although I do like to be able to fiddle about with different parameters on those sites to get a good price.

Thanks

Phone a broker. I have been very impressed with advance insurance and Adrian flux previously though there are many others. Those two have always been cheaper for me than the comparison sites.

Will try them Monday.

It is more to do with which car is affordable.

I know I was looking last year and the premiums for me on my own were eye watering but I can’t put it off for much longer.

Is the electric car new and expensive? Is it the fact that it's leased the problem, rather than it being owned by you?

I didn't have insurance in my name for about 20 years, because I had a company car, but I stopped having one and was able to firstly get insurance on a brand new, but very small cheap car on PCP and after that I bought a similar car that was a couple of years old. In both cases I had no trouble getting quotes that weren't expensive, under £300.

Contact the insurance on which you are a named driver.

What happens if you request a quote for a petrol low insurance cat car? Will they quote you then? ie is it something about the electric/leased part that is problematic? Or something about your driving history?

InTheLabyrinth
Nothing should be on my driving history and did try with the car I am named driver on and it came back the same.

I sort of worry what the DVLA get up to as they have registered a car in my name before that are nothing to do with me.
I only knew about it when I started to get parking tickets and toll road fines.
