How much have your energy bills gone up?

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 25/11/2021 12:08

I’ve just looked at my account and noticed that our E.on bill has gone from £60 to £350 in the last two months! I know there has been a massive hike in energy costs but that’s a crippling increase. If this had been last year, I’d have still been on maternity leave and wouldn’t have been able to afford that. We can’t afford it now really but will get by… just.

Has anyone else had similar?

Have you just got an electric car, fired up a hot tub, moved in another family and whacked the heating to 30c?

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 25/11/2021 15:41

I will have a look at the statements properly when I’ve finished work. Stupid of me to assume that the money they told us to pay would be what we owed. 😫

But if your dh had been getting statements he could see whether you were in credit and whether the payment was covering what you were using. Fault on both sides I think

Ariela · 25/11/2021 15:57

+10% (and still in credit AFTER paying quarterly bill so still being overcharged as we are using less as we're not all WFH) on electricity - but will wait till after the next wholesale increase to reduce the direct debit amount as last bill was 2/3 old rate 1/3 new increased rate, on an estimated bill where they said we'd use 20% more than last year - so effectively paying ALL our usage for the quarter at the old rate, and 23% less on oil (bought when cheap in summer heat)

PermanentlyTired03 · 25/11/2021 16:02

Increased by £10 a month. My fixed rate ended in September so I'm on a variable rate with Octopus. I imagine it'll go up more as I use the heating more.

They were coming to his account, not his email or anything.

Did he get notified they were available?
Sounds like you've been underpaying but you would need to check and see how much you owe

£60 is low and yes the energy supplier should have assessed your payment if it wasn't going to be enough to cover your usage

Nope. No message to say they were there or anything.

That's almost a six fold increase though and with a smart meter I can't understand how your direct debit payment didn't go up in increments to repay the bill? Have you just moved into this house?

Momof2boys1girl · 25/11/2021 17:35

Mine has gone up with EON from £160 to £245, it’s ridiculous

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 25/11/2021 17:44

Be careful - we rumbled SSE trying to increase our DD for the 3rd time in as many months for more than they should......we took the usage from last year, and the predicted for next year and did the maths. What they wanted from us was WAY over what we should have been charged - and that's with taking into account the current higher Kwh fee and the daily charge. DH was furious- its like they wanted a free loan from customers to tide them over. We've accepted to remain on the middle rise of the three we've been given to ensure no shocks in April but even that is more than it should be at today's prices.

Be careful folks, work out your actual bill for yourself with data from your provider and make sure they're not wanting more than necessary out of your pocket.

As soon as we reasonably can, it will be bye bye SSE after 20+ years.

Nope. Been here 4 years now.

Mine probably won't go up because I'm freezing my tits off. I am running the heating 4.5 hours per day.

dementedpixie · 25/11/2021 18:17

Have you been paying £60 all that time? They are supposed to reassess regularly so you don't get until a huge debt with them.

sunshineandrain82 · 25/11/2021 18:41

Mine went from £81 to £432

Saying that the direct debit mandate was £322. They actually took £432. We called them got a refund and now they take £120

I’d have to check. I can’t remember.

Ours just went from £148 to £163. It's a badly insulated 2 bed house and we are with SSE.

Sunshineandrainbow · 25/11/2021 23:00

Mine has gone from 130 to 180 a month with EON.
2 bed house 3 people living here.
Feel sick about it to be honest.

PlanDeRaccordement · 25/11/2021 23:03

Mine haven’t gone up at all....but I’m in France,
So Brexit is my #1 suspect.

worriedatthemoment · 25/11/2021 23:05

My electric is £100 a month was about £75
Gas at moment about £45 was about &30'ish

worriedatthemoment · 25/11/2021 23:08

@PlanDeRaccordement change the record

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 25/11/2021 23:10

Our gas Direct debit has just been increased by £25 per month

Gas and Electricity prices are up everywhere, including France which is pouring in public money to mitigate the effects for customers betting on the fact that the wholesale prices will drop in spring in order to avoid an avalanche of further social discontent.
Blueberry40 · 26/11/2021 06:54

Ours has gone up about 25% in the last few months and is double what we were paying a few years ago- now paying almost £200 a month with Bulb. I did read that they pushed everyone’s bills up to try and balance their books and avoid going into administration. Obviously that didn’t work! We have over £300 in credit but do use more over winter so was just going to leave it there for now.

Theresamagicalplace · 26/11/2021 07:01

We've just had similar with eon. Apparently our smart meter hadn't linked correctly to the outside one so they'd been getting the wrong reading 🙃. They sent someone out who read the actual meter and slammed us with a £350 bill to pay but after speaking to them they split the debt over 12 months and added it onto the new higher monthly payment of £60 so maybe you could arrange something like that?
