Tax self assessment calculation shows tax paid through paye

Hi everyone. I’m a bit stressed.
Last tax year I was told I owed a high income child benefit charge and I needed to submit a tax return so I did this online and I’m sure the “calculation” step showed I owed the £278 and I paid it. I earned just over the 50k that year. I am fully employed and pay tax through paye in the usual way.

Fast forward to this year when I’m doing the same thing for the tax year ending 2021 and the calculation stage shows I owe £10,000+. I earn 52k. How can I owe all this tax when the child benefit for the year is nothing like that, I think it’s 2.5k or something.

Am I just filling in the form incorrectly or something?

Stupid question but have you put your tax paid on the employment page? Does the system think that no tax was deducted from your £52k because you forgot to fill in that box?

@GreenClock thank you. It was exactly that. I have now entered that and the amount in the calculation is the £578 I expected.

Smile thanks again!
