Does anyone know how separation works while claiming universal credit?

2 DC's, currently married and renting. We both work but receive universal credit as well due to low earnings. Planning to separate, but wondered how it works with universal credit, does anyone know?

The plan is to stay living in the same house until after Christmas, then I will move out with the children. Should we wait until I move out to declare the separation, or should we do it now? It is definite.

Thanks!

Are you still pooling finances if so keep claim as joint.

If you truly are splitting finances, bills, food etc then you can Claim is separated mouse in the same household although a decision maker will need to look at your claim.

Where your housing situation and plans. Why are you leaving the house?

You can claim separately whilst living together as long as you are genuinely separated and don't share finances and are planning to live separately when you can. Contact them and ask to make a sole claim.

@Thefuturestory Thank you. I am going to leave the house because his family own it and are our landlords, so would feel a bit awkward staying. I am going to look into a private rental of my own.

We haven't yet split our finances, but will look to do this. Thanks all.

I'm surprised they pay Uc rent element already when his family own the house?
