Hi everyone.
I have a cash ISA that is doing nothing in terms of interest so I am thinking of trying a stocks and shares ISA instead. So I am looking for recommendations please. I have about 11000 at present and I put 300 a month in on top of that as well. So I am wondering if I can transfer that directly in or not ? Can you convert a cash ISA to a stocks one in other words . I am.happy to take a medium risk or even slightly more than that but nothing ridiculous .So has anyone got a good ISA to recommend ? Thanks .

As a complete novice I opened a Stocks and Shares ISA with Nutmeg. It's really easy to do, you do a quiz and it suggests a risk profile for you and sorts out the balance on Investments. I've had mine a year or so and it's way outperformed a cash ISA. However I think Vanguard lifestrategy funds are lower on the fees so may be worth a look as well. I'd take a look at the Money to the Masses blogs as I find that explains financial matters really clearly in an easy to understand way.

@CurlyhairedAssassin

Although I keep reading about interest rates rising, and once that happens, returns on savings should be better than what they are now.
If they are lower than inflation (as is likely) you will still lose.

Only if interest rates are higher than inflation can you gain.

first id start it as you would a research project for an assignment ect, start with the basics eg books on investing for dummies is where id begin, then glossary of investing to learn the termnology ect, then proceed from there, other wise you take a random chance rather than a more detailed risk analysis and could potentially end up investing, like many people did in the sub prime mortgagee bonds ect and it all goes pickles.

We have Vanguard Lifestrategy ISAs. You don't even need to think about them. Ours have done well. We put as much as possible in there but have some cash in premium bonds for easy access in emergency. We hold very little excess cash in the bank. Almost none.
