Arse. Cocked up money just before Christmas

Nothing anyone can do - just wanted a whinge really.

First of all they introduce these card reader things so I can't transfer money from DH's account to the joint account until he gets home from work... after 5pm... when they then charge me £30 for going overdrawn because the money didn't land in the account on the right "working day".

Then benefits tell me that they are cutting them because of DH's pay rise (fair enough, I don't want any more than we are entitled to) - but that starts now. They are also taking out an extra £40 a month for the next few months because he worked his arse off for a bonus - which they see as being overpaid benefits so they are taking the entire amount of bonus lot back. Again, I can see why and that it is fair, but it galls that he works hard and doesn't get to keep his bonus at christmas - take it in March for all I care, just not now.

Then I signed I up friends reunited last year and I was convinced I had chosen the one off option, but no, they say I haven't, take £7.50 for 6 months subscription to a site I don't want to access, and whoopee - that sends me overdrawn so the bank charge me another £30.

On top of that, I looked at my budget spreadsheet trying to work out why we have sod all money when that shows we should be fine... I have put in benefits in 2 places, vastly over inflating our income.

So. We are left we £2 to last until about 22nd or whenever child benefit goes in.

I am going to have to stick food on a credit card which I have been trying desperately not to do and to clear off what we owe.

Merry F*cking Christmas

On the bright side, I was sensible enough over the year to get the presents as we went along, so my children are sorted, it is just my sister I have left to buy for and I think I have an amazon voucher to cover that.

Yours didn't cost me any excess money, just need to grab cheque That came out of the staff account so no charges if it goes over.

Our car's just been wirtten off so we have to replace that soon, not our fault I might add, so I know ow you feel. Really could do without it TBH, but not much we can do

FairyTaleOfNewYork · 09/12/2007 15:23

SaintGeorge · 09/12/2007 15:25

I've mailed you flamey. Just make sure you bloody well reply!

FlamesparodyOfAChristmasName · 09/12/2007 15:25

Intrigued (and a little scared) about what you have found in your bedroom!

That sucks Eddas My sister's bits are some obscure DVDs. If I can't find the voucher I will probably credit card it and pay it off as soon as the tax credits go in, so it won't be an interest job iysiwm.

I wanna know whats in the bedroom too! And what the obscure dvds are?

FlamesparodyOfAChristmasName · 09/12/2007 16:33

lol @ posting the pepper! Thank you The dvds weren't obscure it turned out, we have sorted that out now thanks to a very nice MNer pretending to be a credit card.

The bedroom wasn't as rude as it sounds - twas nappy related.

I'd even been keeping a little appropriately sized box I'd found!

FlamesparodyOfAChristmasName · 09/12/2007 16:40

You are completely insane, but it is one of the things I love about you!

FlamesparodyOfAChristmasName - I would go into the bank and see if you can get the £30 charge for going overdrawn back. I went in with my brother earlier in the year (he was too afraid to ask for his £30 charge back on his own!) and I think the bank staff do have the discretion to hit a button and get it back to you. Especially if you explain that the direct debit was accidental and ask them to cancel it for you at the same time as you had not intended a direct debit to be set up. You might get lucky and they'll put it straight back into your account like they did with my brother (it was Lloyds bank).

puccaupunderthemistletoe · 09/12/2007 16:48

Oh god a similar thing has happened to me too.

I changed gas/elecric to Sainsbury's as seemed like a good deal, fixed prices for a year yadda yadda, this was back in Sept has taken them this long to sort it out, heard nothing from them AT ALL until they try and take 2 seperate DD's out of our account with no pre warning, hence natwest (wankers!) have charges us 2 X £38!

So out tax credits of £23 a week will be swallowed up paying these stupid charges, and dh doesn't get paid until 21st.

Great isn't it?

puccaupunderthemistletoe · 09/12/2007 16:50

Forgot to add, i ended up hanging up on Natwest, after them saying the same thing over and over of "it isn't bank error so we will not refund charges" and apparently they are not paying out any of these reclaim your charges cases until next year, so nothing i can do.

FlamesparodyOfAChristmasName · 09/12/2007 17:05

I doubt that Barclays will give me the money back either - I reclaimed all the ones from when we were first living together and everything bounced regularly (luckily I got in before they froze it all!). They tend not to be overly sociable with me now - can't think why

FlamesparodyOfAChristmasName - could try a different branch of barclays if you are passing one

jofeb04 · 09/12/2007 19:57

Flame,
Re: Barclays, I went overdrawn last month, and went into the bank, explaned the situation, and had the money refunded.

Can't see how they can do it for one person and not for another. Make sure you see the personal bankers (and if they can't help, the bank manager).

Also, my local branch would never refund it, so I went to another branch, and they did!

FlamesparodyOfAChristmasName · 10/12/2007 16:18

Yup, Barclays ain't having any of it. They say tis my own fault (which it is )
