Hi all

I am asking for an opinion/help, I am a singiel mother of 8 years old , Ive been employed for the last 4 years and working full time, recently I ve been having a really stressful time at work ( new management, pressure on me , no time for my son and family at all , doing extra hours with no appreciation and salary increase) I have made s decision to resign it really wasnt an easy decision as this was my only income, my last working day is next week. I am looking for a new job and hopefully will find something, my question is... if I have resigned can I apply for a help from universal credit? I have no idea about this as never claimed anything, but my friend told me if I have resigned Job centre might not give me a help.

Maybe someone was in similar situation? And knows what shall I do until I will find a new job?

Please leave all the negative energy and answers for your self I am only looking for advice. Thank you in advance

From what I can see online you can claim straight away but will be sanctioned if they don't deem your reasons for resigning as acceptable.

@ifoundthebread what do you mean by sanctioned?

Yes you are likely to be sanctioned, but it does depend on the reason for leaving. You cannot claim Uc if you have savings over 16k and any savings over 6k will reduce the amount you receive each month. A sanction just means they will take a portion of your standard element from you so you would get less UC.

You can most certainly apply but they will make you agree to a commitment.
These are requirements that you stick to in order to continue your claim- looking for work x amount of hours a week, attending appointments, filling in your journal etc.

Thank you, I am really looking for work or even to open my own business its just a need an help during this period when I will be without any income. Never asked for a help from them and I was hoping I would never have to but here we go...

They might sanction you. They might also expect you to take on any job, not just what you wish to do.

Cross fi gets you find something of your choice quickly.
