dd (6) burnt both wrists on a carvery hotplate at the weekend, reaching over to pick up a plate. There was no sign to make her aware that it might be hot nor any low level guard to prevent her arms coming into contact with the hotplate. She has two narrow burns on the inside of her wrists , one of which has since blistered, is sore and is covered with a gel burns plaster. We asked for ice at the time so restaurant were aware.

My brother who runs a large supermarket suggests it should have been noted in their Accident Book. Is that correct and should we write to ensure that they do put a notice or guard up. Not looking for any redress, free meals etc (not a place we'll eat at again in a hurry tbh). It is a small, independently owned family pub/restaurant btw.

definately should have been noted in accident book as a minimum. Also should have had a appointed first aider I think.

Bump for you, I don't know but it sounds very bad that there was no guard

They should have had a sign up especially as it is a carvery where they know that you will be serving yourself. I would write a letter explaining this to them and requesting that they put a sign up.

They have a duty of care to ensure that theire premises etc are safe.
