Have just been told the garage that goes with the house I have made an offer on is leasehold, and I will have to pay 1/12 of the insurance premiums for the garages (presumably garages for 12 houses?) Has anyone else had this situation & are there any implications or is it all ok? Thanks wise mumsnetters

If the garage is not attached to the house (but is with other garages on nearby site) then it's probably fine. It's so that the freeholders can demand money to retarmac turning areas and so on, otherwise everyone would just wait for other garage owners to do it and blame the one at number three for having a bigger car and therefore leading to more wear and tear of asphalt etc. As long as garage has very long lease that isn't up for regular review, you should be fine. Is this the same house that you were worried about having surveyed?

If it is attached to house, then it would be a bit odd.

yes it is same house! garage is nearby the house in a block of 3 I think, with what looks like a flat or house over the top of them. The houses/garages are arranged round a tarmac courtyard kind of thing, so what you said makes sense, thanks!
