You who do not own a car, do you use the corner stores or the express stores to buy all your food , or do you use the big stores ? Is it much more expensive to buy everything in the express stores, or is the difference not so big ?

It's much more expensive

Not sure, but definitely worth doing a weekly or fortnightly big supermarket delivery. I say fortnightly possibly to be sure of hitting any minimum basket levels and very likely free delivery if basket is costly enough.

Tesco express are more expensive plus they don't stock the budget options so even repeatedly going there on foot doesn't seem worth it

Order online from supermarket. Small things picked up wherever. We have few metro type Tesco’s and Morrison’s around some prices are the same say milk but snacky treat booze impulsive items costs more.

If you have a small local Asda store nearby they are exactly the same price as the superstores - it is their policy to have same price in all stores which I think is great

We order online from a supermarket every week and just get top ups from local shops. Delivery charges are cheaper than the bus fare there and back, plus they can bring more than I can carry!

JustSayingItHowItIs · 11/09/2021 13:18

Order online.
If you can't do that taxi or bus to the supermarket. What you pay in fares is what you'd pay on the express stores anyway. They're really overpriced.

If you are feeding lots of people the big sized own-brands at the big stores offer a saving. Smaller households the economics are different.

We’ve just come back from a weeks holiday in the Cotswolds. Nearest supermarket was over 25 minutes away, local petrol station didn’t stock hardly anything fresh and that was a 10 minute drive away.

Much much more expensive.

Delivery once a week for all our shopping. Much cheaper than local shops. I meal plan, keep some frozen veg for the end of the week and for emergencies.
I use tesco most of the time.

The smaller chains are usually cheaper, i.e. Spar, Co-Op, One Stop, Londis, etc., than the likes of Tesco Express and usually have a better range of goods for sale. Personally, I like One Stop stores (which ironically are independent franchises of "One Stop" which is actually Tesco!).
