Universal credit and partner working part time

Can universal credit force me into work if my partner earns more than £541 a month? And also he is self employed and puts down his out goings for expenses too so he barely makes profit say he earns £650:a month well £550 of that was expenses last month because of costs of buisness. Would I be in the The light-touch regime( unversal credit) if my partner earns and is self employed. I have 3 children and am currently on child tax credit we are thinking on moving in together .thanks any advice would be good 😃🧡

Uc can be a bit of a nightmare for the self employed so you need to read up on this and make sure you are well informed before switching. He will be hit by the minimum income floor which means even if he doesn't earn 37 x nmw in your monthly assessment period they can treat him as if he has. Has he only just become self employed ? If so they will look at whether he is considered gainfully self employed. If he is barley making a profit then I guess they may not consider him gainfully self employed. Do tax credits accept him earning that little without querying it ? On Uc if he is in the first year of self employment I dont think the minimum income floor is applied.

So can they force me into work if we start a joint claim ? Back when it was working tax the mum could stay at home to look after kids no matter what age . I dont want to be forced into work on Uc ' my partner works self employed he is hit with minimum floor just now

How old are your children? My mate has just been told she'll be light touch until her DD is 3 then she'll be expected to look for work. Her DH is also self employed. Some months they get £60 UC, other than months it's more.

Your partner doesn't earn 541 a month. It's after expenses so if he barley makes more than £100 per month you'd both be expected to increase your households income.
