I’m a bit stressed as spilt from partner recently have found a rental but is £1000 per month have got it as nothing else around, but now I’m a single parent self employed earning about £900 a month tried doing the online calculators but doesn’t give much information, hopefully claiming through UC won’t know how much until I’m in! Can anyone in similar situation tell me how much roughly a month from what I can see is £400 housing benefit? I have 2 young children as well.

Looks like your entitlement for housing benifit is just over £700 a month they will give u x

Babyroobs · 23/08/2021 22:49

If rent element is £700, it a big jump to make up the other £300.

OP lots of advice here - if you do need more help then citizens advice may be able to help.

A few other things - the standard allowance (the amount for you to live on) is going to be reduced by £20 per week. It was raised due to Covid - if you claim by 6 September then you will get one assessment period at the £411.51 rate, after that will be £324.84.

If your profits from employment or self employment vary each month the universal credit will as well.

You will see some information on Minimum income floor applied to people who are self employed - this will not affect you during the first year of your claim (I assume this is your first universal credit claim). How it affects you after that will depend on your circumstances.

If you have registered child care costs (like nursery or after school club) there can be an element for that as well.

If you get child support that will not affect the amount of universal credit that you get (support for you directly spouse maintenance could).

You could also look at making a claim for discretionary housing payment through your local council to help with the shortfall in rent element. They do tend to want detailed accounts of income and outgoings though.

You say your weekly earnings are £220 from self employment. I’m concerned you haven’t put the correct figure in for earnings into that calculator

I'm in a similar situation and have been looking for information like this, thanks for posting. I'm right at the beginning. Is there help towards council tax?

I earn around £800 a month and really don't know if I will have enough to cover bills, it's holding me back from leaving.

CornishTiger · 24/08/2021 07:58

@sum15 council tax support is available depending on your earnings. You can do a rough calculation within that calculator I linked to. Good luck.

Loocheeyar · 24/08/2021 08:01

I woupd apply for council housing in your situation

Realitea · 24/08/2021 08:11

@sum15 yes you do get help towards council tax but not through IC, it’s through the council. You still have to pay towards it.

Hi all, looking for some advice also.
I’m 26 y/o living in Greenwich Borough, have no family in the UK and am in a house share (my rent is £500) a month, am single and have recently found out I am pregnant. My housemates won’t want a baby living in the house with us so I will have to look for alternative accommodation. The only thing is I won’t be able to afford it.. I am on £33000 a year so I am not sure if or how much housing benefit or support I would be entitled to. I would probably go part time which would bring my salary down to £28000 eventually but any support or advice appreciated ladies thank you x
