1. He receives ESA( now universal credit with housing but I know he looses housing) and industrial injuries benefit aswell as pips. Does all of this stop and replaced with a weekly budget?he has life insurance policies etc and other bills that will still need paying and won't be covered by a small weekly budget. Plus he smokes 🤦
His universal credit will continue (minus HB) and his care component of PIP will stop after 28 days.
If the placement is permanent all of his income and assets will be taken into account and he will be given an allowance of around £25 a week to pay for toiletries, clothes, cigs etc.
Some 'bills' can be allowed for as part of the financial assessment such as insurances/ funeral plans etc but ultimately he can't be paying for anything he doesn't need any more.
2. Does the motability component of pips stop? He has a car that I use for visits and shopping etc and don't know what's going to happen there..
He may be able to keep his mobility component of PIP if he is in residential care, if this is paying for a mobility car then the car will need to be at his disposal. You shouldn't be able to use it for visits and shopping as a regular thing (I.e you can't treat it as your car) . You are probably treading a fine line with this as it is. If the mobility car is leased then the local authority will probably expect that when that lease runs out it isn't renewed if he remains in residential care unless you can show that he is making regular use of the vehicle.
3. I'm on carers now.. and obviously will be going on u.c this is slightly terrifying too as even though he will be in care home he will be reliant on my visits and I'm so anxious about being back in work.
I'm sorry to hear that. But, you do need to get on with rebuilding your life outside of being his carer, and he will have people around him 24 hours a day. You will both be ok.
