Does anyone on here claim statutory maternity pay?

Do you get topped up by universal credit? I am currently being kicked out by my mum because I'm pregnant. The housing team in London will only offer me private housing because I am working. Most flats are well over £1000 in London and the SMP is only around £152 a week so I'm a bit worried.

Thank you in advance for your advice girls xx

You would definitely get UC if you are only getting SMP but your full rent may not be covered by your Uc rent element. until you have your baby you would only be entitled to claim the local housing allowance shared accommodation rate if you are under 25. When your baby is born it would go up to two bedroom rate and you will then get the child element also and a work allowance as long as you still get smp which is counted as earnings. Check here for your area LHA lha-direct.voa.gov.uk/Search.aspx

@babyroobs

Thank you this is super helpful. I'm mainly worried about when the baby is born so this is comforting x

Currently you would get your standard element and rent element.
When your baby is born you will get your standard element, rent element ( which will go up once the baby is born) and a child element of £237.08 and also the first £237 of your smp will be disregarded before your smp reduces your UC by 63p for each pound of smp ( called the work allowance ). this work allowance disregard won't kick in until the baby is born but does make quite a difference in the deductions.
